Reusable Wipes

I am going to be using reusable wipes with my little one, due next month. I was just wondering if anybody had any ideas on adding a nice scent to them (oils etc)?

I was thinking of adding a little of the Johnsons top-to-toe baby bath with the wipes as something extra to clean baby with but not sure?

You can use chamomile tea - good for the skin and smells nice too!

OuchBollocks · 28/06/2017 10:12

Crikey no don't add Johnsons to something you'll be rubbing over their genitals.

If you buy the Cheeky Wipes kits they come with essential oils to add to the clean ones then a different oil to soak the dirty ones in before washing, you can buy the oils by themselves or get some ideas to buy elsewhere here on their site.

Blimey. Women find new ways to create shit work for ourselves every day.

OuchBollocks · 28/06/2017 10:18

rain my DH washes the wipes. Also they wipe far better than disposable ones, no smearing, making the literal 'shit work' a bit less unpleasant. Plus it means I'm not throwing away wipes every day. But feel free to judge and sneer.

Rainatnight · 28/06/2017 10:18

I'm not judging and sneering, it's just my mind genuinely boggles.

lemureyes · 28/06/2017 10:20

Yeah was thinking the Johnsons might be overkill. Sorry, first time mum so I have no clue 😂

Thank you for recommending it! I really like the sound of the mandarin oil!

Any recommendations on what to wash the wipes with? (I know they will come with washing instructions but want to know what people have gathered from experience)

If your mind was boggling then you could have said "what about them makes the extra work worthwhile?" You sneered. And I much prefer the washable wipes, for reasons stated above. Plus you don't run out of wipes at 10pm on a Sunday after a poonami.

lemureyes · 28/06/2017 10:24

Rainatnight I decided to use reusable wipes so that I don't have so much waste in my bin (also using reusable nappies). I don't like the thought of even more stuff clogging up landfill when I can use these for all of my children and save money in the long run.

Reusable wipes are great, so much better than disposables!

I wash mine in a nappy wash if my DS has been in cloth, or on their own or with towels if he's in pampers (pretty much all the time at the moment Blush) and I use the dettol laundry cleanser as well as detergent. It probably isn't needed though! And then out in the sun - it's the best thing for getting them clean.

usethefrickinsqueegy · 28/06/2017 20:08

Second vote for Cheeky wipes here. You just wash them hot with normal detergent - whatever you usually use. I often do an extra rinse cycle just to make sure it's all gone.

Frickin love my reusable wipes, and totally agree that they make life much, much easier. I used disposables to clean a stinky pooey nappy yesterday and couldn't believe how long and messy a job it was!

caprifun · 28/06/2017 20:19

I washed mine with non bio powder, and chucked them in with nappies or clothes washes - I had white wipes for bums and coloured ones for faces / fingers. And I never used any oils or anything with them, just water (slightly warmed for DC1, generally straight from cold tap for DC2). But i always did have back up disposable wipes too, especially for trips out after being caught short on wipes a couple of times. My wipes are still in use now 6 years on, for messy dinner times, and still lovely and soft.

SecretFreebirther · 28/06/2017 20:20

I couldn't keep up with cloth nappies (4 dcs) but I love my cloth wipes and wouldn't use anything else. Mostly I just use water but sometimes I like to put some coconut oil, honey and a nice herbal teabag in a bowl with warm water and soak the wipes in that. Or tea tree oil to keep them fresher for longer. I just wash them with whatever is in the machine.

4yoniD · 28/06/2017 20:27

A smidge of waitrose baby bottom butter dissolved in hot water. Although mostly I just used plain water. And by the time I potty trained dd2 it wasn't technically cloth wipes but cut up rags.

BikeRunSki · 28/06/2017 20:29

I used the big packs of Ikea flannels, and just bunged them in with the nappies.

DrSpin · 28/06/2017 20:33

I use cheeky wipes and don't use anything but water with them. I was them frequently and dry them before reusing them. I gave two packets and use them split into 2, so gave four batches of wipes if that makes sense.
I bloody love cheeky wipes.
I have some tea tree oil drops for them but get through wipes so quickly I don't bother using the scented oil.

DrSpin · 28/06/2017 20:33

Not gave, have

lemureyes · 30/06/2017 10:41

Thank you for the suggestions everyone 😀

I love my cheeky wipes too - use disposables when out and about and they are simply not as effective on poo, particularly if it's a weetabixy sort of one with lots of bits!! I use cheeky wipes own blend, I bought a large bottle when my little one was born and now at 18months it's about half empty. Lasts well and smells great. I wash mine at 60 with my towels and normal detergent.

Good luck with your new baby!

Orangepear · 03/07/2017 21:17

I use Johnson's top to toe wash with my cheeky wipes and never had a problem. I thought essential oils would be too strong. I wet the wipes as i go and add a tiny blob of the wash to lather up a bit. Poo can be very sticky so just water wouldn't be enough for me.
