Ds 3.5 won't poo on toilet

Ds was a bit late to start potty training. He simply wasn't interested , bothered or ready. We tried again after xmas and he's now totally dry and reliable.

Poos are another matter though! He just won't poo on the toilet. I wouldn't mind if he waited until his nighttime nappy or even asked for a nappy but he doesn't!

I try to catch him in the act and have managed once to get him to poo on the toilet and he was so pleased with himself. I really thought we'd cracked it but sadly not.

What can I do? We've tried chocolate buttons, a new toy and a sticker chart but nothing works. He knows he's doing it as he often goes to hide.

My two daughters were so easy!

Saw a suggestion for a poo party here on mn. After all the things we tried, this worked. We just said It's a poo party! And that seemed to click with her.

LOVING the idea of a poo party Grin.

Walnut whip anyone?

My ds was nearly 6 before he stopped pooing on the potty (it was one of those big ones, thankfully) but it got awful for cleaning. It turned out he hated the plop, I told him to put a couple of sheets of loo paper down first to stop the plop and splash and he's never looked back. He still does it and he's 14 now. He'd bloody kill me if he knew I'd told you, lol

Things which seem to be helping a bit with us are talking about it, naming her poo, looking at it, flushing it away together and waving bye bye to it (!) etc. I tried the Pooland app with her a while back but she didn't like it.

lavenderdoilly · 30/03/2016 09:21

Paddypaws, we were desperate (pardon rubbish pun) Grin.
If they are holding it in, asking them to blow real or imaginary bubbles while sitting on the loo also helps.Preferably with legs propped up a bit on a step (or your knees) to make their knees bent and raised. Bubble blowing makes the right muscles work. Can you tell how much fun it has been?

Paddypaws3 · 30/03/2016 16:17

We've done all manner of blowing, roaring' growling and straining Grin.

He doesn't hold it in. He just point blank refuses to tell me when he needs to go or sit on the loo if I catch him trying to hide in the curtains Angry. He just waits til no one's watching!

Oh yeah, the curtains. We had that. Dd (now 8) can't imagine the notion that she was any bother.

We have possibly had a break through!

We took himself off for a wee earlier then shouted that he'd done a poo. Not being sure what to think, I looked in the toilet and there it was! Shock. He was SO pleased with himself, as was his twin sister.

He's asked for a poo quite a few times during the last few days (which he never has done before) but it has never resulted in anything.

Fingers crossed eh?

Wow that sounds like progress to me! Fingers crossed that you'll see a repeat performance Wink

I was mortified at the weekend, went to stay with GPs for the first time since he's been out of pull ups. He did several poos with glee in the loo 'by myself mummy' and one of them was tiny weeny. He was so proud of his tiny poo he went to get grandad (stark naked I might add) and pulled him by the hand up the stairs to examine it...! Grandad valiantly declared it certainly was the tiniest poo he'd ever seen and then escaped downstairs sharpish!

Paddypaws3 · 08/04/2016 07:25

Haha aren't they funny?!

Omg he's been on the toilet again! Shock

Do I dare hope that this is IT?!

I have got my fingers and toes crossed!

My ds 3.5 is also going through this, he was fine when he initially potty trained but then regressed with poos after becoming constipated and having a sore bum. Now he saves his poo until he's in bed wearing a nappy. We always sit him on the potty before bed and he has a story there to try and take some of the attention away from him pooing, but he just won't try. Just downloaded poo goes to Pooland, so will see if that helps.

Paddypaws3 · 10/04/2016 09:24

It's so frustrating isn't it?

He only went and did it again! Grin,

Fingers crossed paddy! My DS has done it twice now on the potty. Both times he was naked from the waist down and I wasn't watching so I think he likes the privacy. But if he has pants on he will do it in them instead! He's still visibly nervous though and gets really anxious when he needs a poo

Paddypaws3 · 13/04/2016 21:30

Well, well, well.

He's only gone and cracked it!

I'm utterly gobsmacked Shock. It's been a week now and he's had no accidents. In fact my new problem is getting him OFF the loo now!

Thanks for all of your advice :).
