3.8yo Doesn't want to toilet train

I had a go at potty training DD a month ago but despite 4 days of no nappies there was little success. She spent the first two days asking for a nappy and although happy enough to sit on a potty or toilet didn't do much in them. The only successes we had were when we switched the TV on and sat her on the potty, almost as if she was distracted and stopped holding on to it iyswim.

I decided to leave it till the end of the holiday and try again, but talking to her about it she just says she wants to keep wearing nappies.

When trying to train her she was going 2 to 3 hours between wees so
I know she can hold onto it, I think she is physically ready just doesn't want to know.

Anyone had this problem or have any advice on how to encourage her to want to use the potty/toilet instead?

I'm no expert as still have lots of questions of my own but at this age my personal opinion is bribes are needed if they are resisting being potty trained. Have you tried stickers or a sweet? Or 3 stickers equals one sweet to limit amount of sugary stuff. Also the promise of a fun trip out or something if sweets aren't motivating enough.

Also someone here suggested letting them choose their own knickers (eg Frozen ones). There are some good books for kids about how to use the potty too (eg Princess Polly).

Make a huge fuss whenever she succeeds. If you've tried all that then I'm out of suggestions!!

Thanks for replying, we have tried bribes, giving chocolate buttons for every trip to the bathroom ect If we try again maybe she will only get the chocolate for successful visits!

She did pick the pants I think she just likes the ease of nappies.

Books are one thing I haven't tried so will go and have a look for the princess polly one.

I like this one as well www.amazon.co.uk/Girls-Potty-Time-Dk/dp/1405352566/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1440520702&sr=8-2&keywords=Dk+potty+book

I can't see anything wrong with using the TV or an iPad or something to get them/keep them on the potty for a while. Hopefully enough times of doing that even if it's over several days and weeks will mean sitting on it might become more if a habit and something she will do without those distractions.

I quite like the Gina Ford book as well which sets out a bit of a plan. Although from speaking to other mums the timeframe of a week is daft. It can be 2 weeks of accidents and then 4 more weeks until they're properly trained. I'm still trying with my 2.8 year old but I now think persevering is the key rather than to keep assuming they're not ready. I've given up a few times and wish I'd carried on.
