How to potty train when DS does 3 or 4 very soft poos a day

DS is DC2 but his bowel habits are very different to his sisters and always have been. As an ebf baby, she only did a poo once a week and, even when we potty trained her at 2.4, she only did one poo every other day and it was pretty well formed. She only ever had one wee accident but it took her a couple of weeks to get poos. It didn't really matter as, given she is at nursery for three days a week, I was only having to deal with a couple of poo accidents a week and, in most cases, I could just shake the poo out of her pants into the loo & clean her up & pop her in a fresh set of pants.
I have a feeling it will be a very different experience with DS. He has always done a lot of poos (usually 3 or 4 a day, including as an ebf baby) and the continue to be very soft as he mainly eats fruit and veg. Any poo accident he has is going to be a nightmare to deal with. Not only can I see it involving a change of pants but trousers too and I am also worried about the chance of poo oozing through onto the floor/sofa/my knee etc.

Any tips? Other than leave him in nappies forever!

DS had toddler diarrhoea - all his poos were soft and splatty as you describe. What we did, and I would heartily recommend, is start teaching them to use the loo while still in nappies or pullups. Offer potty opportunities regularly, cheer wildly for any successes as per usual, and wait till he's showing some signs of progress before you even think of removing nappies for good. People say it gives mixed messages, but it doesn't have to - you're aiming to get them all in the loo, it's just not such a disaster if they miss.

Try pants inside a pull up, that way they feel like they've got pants on but it just limits the damage.

How old is your DS? I'm a great believer in waiting if it's not looking good. I had a couple of disastrous attempts with DS when he was 2, and finally did it when he was about 3.2 and it just clicked.
