DS is 2.8. I'm not sure if he's ready but as DH is away for 10 days with work and DSS is leaving today for a week at his mums, I thought I'd give potty training a go.
The weather forecast is pretty good as well so hoping just wearing pants on his bottom half means he won't freeze while in the garden.
I inherited DSS when he was 5 - so other than a few please wipe my bottom episodes, I'm completely clueless at this.
I'm going to chart our progress or lack of on here and then see if its worth persevering. Any tips very welcome!
He is still in his night time nappy so I'm getting up then we're going for it......wish us luck Grin

Good luck OP! My dd is 2.3 so just starting to thinking about when and how we would do it - will watch with interest and send positive good luck thoughts!

olivesnutsandcheese · 13/04/2015 11:02

40 mins and we've had our first puddle. Typically I'd just popped upstairs to see DSS. DS did tell me though and cried when I said we had to change his pants. It clearly feels different to a nappy which is a good thing I think.

I've started today too! Ds is 2.5. We had one accident in pajamas, he is refusing he undies completely, and one wee on the potty after him almost bursting with holding it for about an hour.

olivesnutsandcheese · 13/04/2015 13:31

so far.... He asked for the potty after lunch and did a poo and wee in it! lots of praise and a sticker. He genuinely seemed chuffed with himself. Then I called his Nanny to tell her and saw him make a huge puddle on the patio Grin Grin serves me right for taking my eyes off him for moment.

and another wee accident on the patio... today has felt really long but aside from the small pile of wet pants that need washing I'm still feeling quite positive about it. Going to attempt to pre-empt the next wee by some reminding every 15 mins

olivesnutsandcheese · 13/04/2015 16:40

didn't need to remind him - he's done two wees on the potty in the last hour all by himself Shock

Woohoo Olives. We've had great success too. After the initial wetting of his pjs this morning we've had only one small accident, all the rest of his wee and two poos in the potty! afraid it's all going to go belly up tomorrow

olivesnutsandcheese · 13/04/2015 16:55

don't say that fish...tomorrow will be fab I'm sure. I'm astounded that DS has done anything in the potty so today is a huge success. I'm running out of stickers though Wink

This sounds brilliant, well done olives! We are on day 4 :/

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 13/04/2015 20:46

Ds just fell asleep on the potty! He was so distressed in bed there he had more wee / poo to do. Little pet

olivesnutsandcheese · 13/04/2015 21:31

fell asleep on the potty ..... Grin Grin Grin brilliant, hope you took a photo to whip out for the 18th birthday!

Day 1 has been a total of 5 wees and a poo on target and 3 wee accidents. So proud of DS, totally underestimated him. I'm hoping it's a little warmer tomorrow as he was pretty much naked from the waist down today.

Had he ever weed on the potty before this? For fun?

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 13/04/2015 21:41

My ds hadn't, apparently sat on one once at nursery but hadn't even seen one at home till today

olivesnutsandcheese · 14/04/2015 08:06

DS has had a potty at home for a while but never used it. Because I had this week in mind to start training we've been talking about it in the past couple of weeks, talking about wearing 'big boy' pants and where big boys do all their wees and poos.
So I guess you could say it's the cold turkey approach but with prior discussions. Lets hope they keep up the good work today!

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 14/04/2015 08:09

We discussed too. And made him say bye bye to his nappies on Sunday night Smile

Good luck today Olives

A not bad Day 2 in the Olive household. Two wet outdoor accidents and 4 on target including both poos. I think he's definitely 'got' poos but wees are a little more tricky especially if he is engrossed in something.
Tomorrow we're going to brave going out but it is to a farm so no worries if there are leaks. Will just have to pack extra clothes and a travel potty.

One thing to say about potty training to anyone thinking of starting - definitely stock up on wine Grin I haven't concentrated this hard in years!

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 14/04/2015 20:39

We had two poos in pants this morning and no accidents since. Phew. I hear you about the wine Grin

dollydaydream84 · 15/04/2015 15:55

well done olives - has he been telling you when he wants to go? We are on day 6 and apart from day 1, only one accident per day (think we had two on one day) but she isn't telling us. In two minds whether to give up :/

olivesnutsandcheese · 15/04/2015 17:31

Been a good day 3 I think. We braved leaving the house and had a lovely time at a farm, two wee accidents while out but a lot of potty use when we got home. He shouts 'need potty' most of the time but the odd wee still catches him unawares. In hindsight we should probably have stayed at home but we both had a nice time and frankly who cares about a bit of washing.
I might feel slightly differently if we'd had poo accidents but after 3 days he's done every one on the potty....keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 15/04/2015 18:05

We've had no accidents today! But didn't leave the house Grin

Buttercup27 · 15/04/2015 18:09

Take extra socks and shoes just in case ! You'd be surprised at how wet socks can get from an accident. Have fun at the farm.

olivesnutsandcheese · 15/04/2015 19:03

excellent news fish - well done little fish.
I'm hoping for fewer accidents tomorrow and we're staying in all day so that should help

olivesnutsandcheese · 16/04/2015 15:56

Oh dear - potty training with a hangover, I wouldn't recommend it Grin
Still, we've managed most things on the potty and the car seat remains dry despite popping to the shops for essentials (hangover munchies)!

Day 1 here, we've gone straight to the toilet as he's a bit older (3y2m). He's been great with the wees, just one accident and one dribble when he didn't make it in time. He has never sat on the toilet though and we had a poo in his pants this afternoon, hoping he'll get the idea of that soon!
DS4 is 14 weeks so it's a bit difficult trying to juggle them both lol.

olivesnutsandcheese · 17/04/2015 17:00

I think its fair to say potty training is a bit like 2 steps forward and 1 step back. DS is great with poos but now on day 5 and we're having wee accidents a fair bit. I'm finding it quite disheartening because I think until he is more certain then I don't want to go out much in case of accidents. We're both going a bit insane staying at home though so I'm not sure what to do for the best (plus as DH is away I'm fairly knackered with doing it all for the past week).
