Holding in wee

We have been potty training for a couple of days. A couple of accidents in the first few days but today she just seems to be holding it in. She'll sit on the potty but won't let the wee go. It's been 6 hours. Is this normal? She doesn't ask for anappy and is happy to sit on the potty, just no wee! Any advice?

6 hours is a very long time without weeing. Mine holds her wee too but only for maybe 10 mins until I notice her shaking then rush her to the loo.

I'm teaching her to just go to loo when she has to wee, she is getting better at it now.

I would say just keep encouraging. Is she drinking plenty of fluids?

I was told by the G.P holding their wee is bad for them as it can cause urine infections so just keep an eye on her. Mine got it in the beginning of potty training because of holding her wee and it's horrendous for the poor mites and not to mention us!

Sorry don't mean to bombard you with things just passing on all I know Smile

Sorry, no help here, but my dd is exactly the same. She started using potty very occassionally, when she was 21 months after seeing some older friends. She just went over to potty unprompted, the first time and said wee, and went. I thought she was a bit young to try full potty training, and so offered her the potty morning and evening, but wees tailed off. When she was two I tried potty training with no nappies, but we managed a day and a half as she was witholding and getting upset. She was also a bit poorly so I thought time was not right. Have tried again today, and from taking her nappy off at 7.30 she did not wee till 4pm. By that point she looked very uncomfortable. Like you, she will sit on potty for ages, but won't go, until she cannot hold on any longer. She was pleased when she managed one wee in potty, but could not manage another before bed (she did have one accident too). I'm sure her nappy will be very full tomorrow morning. I am planning on doing another two/three days and see if it gets an easier, otherwise I think I'll have to abandon again! I have given reassurance about accidents, and when she had an accident she was not particularly upset. At the moment I would rather she had an accident than held on for so long. I have also tried stickers for wees in potty and given her option of toilet seat... So any other thoughts welcome.

We are in the same boat. She was 3 in Feb and hasn't had any accidents but, will not wee (or poo) at all, she keeps it all in until I give her a nappy. Today she went from 9am until 4:30pm without going at all. She was drinking plenty. She was crying and refusing to go so I put a nappy on her because I don't want her to get upset or worse still sick. I don't know where to go with this, I have two boys older than her and they were trained earlier and easier than this.
