Day 1 of potty training - anyone else want to hold hands?

Hiya!

Dd is 2.4yo and has shown an interest in the potty (has previously done a couple of wees on it) but we've delayed training until now because of moving house last week. She dislikes nappy changes, very good communication skills etc so I think she's ready.

Our progress so far...

7:30 - Poo on the potty (fluke I think)
8:50 - Wet herself 10 mins after reluctantly sitting on the potty
9:40 - Wet herself a bit after falling over.

She cries when she wets herself but is still very reluctant to sit on the potty, I think because she's worried about weeing on the floor. She has some little new toys that she knows she can choose from when she manages to do something on the potty but I'm not sure it's enough of an incentive. She also says "I don't want a chocolate button" Hmm

Sigh.

Anyone else going through this today?

We are starting today, kind of regretting it as it's a lovely day out but we're stuck in the house.
So far I've managed to catch the tail end of three wees in potty. We've had one voluntary wee on the potty. And two poos on the floor. So not that great.
We are using sticker chart which he's very keen on.
He's 2 years 9 months.
Hows your progress going?

hello first day without nappy on for the full day. as soon as he realised he was weeing he called out for me and managed to get him to finish twice on the potty or toilet what ever was closest. Only really one proper wee on the potty when I told him to stay on and finish. Whenever I asked him if he needed to go the answer was always no. No poos but he normally goes first thing in the morning.

Glad I bought lots of pants and joggers.
did you buy the chart? I gave him a sticker every time he made it on And a penny in his money box.
He is also 2 years 9 months

I started DS today. He did three wees in his pants in the first half hour. The second time he told me he had a poo in his pants, but it was just a wee.

He's three and a month but I honesty think he's miles from being ready, he doesn't seem to have a clue and is too distractable to remember what he's supposed to be doing.

Yes mummydarling bought a chart and extra stickers, good thing too as he wants one on his jumper and one on the chart every time. He's in bed now but had one poo in the potty (no idea why all the poos today) which he instigated himself. Another week in the potty and two more accidents.
I think this is OK, guess it was 75 per cent accidents and 25 per cent potty use.
Cheshire cat I am keeping Do naked on the bottom half for now. Means he's more likely to realise he's not wearing a nappy, easier to get him on the potty, less washing too. Could you try that?

Hello. Day 5(?) here with a 2.4 year old. Only one accident. OP, you sound like me two months ago. I'd give it a few more weeks and try again.

(Fwiw, I think the key to our success this time is that she will reliably do a wee when taken to the potty. She has been telling us in advance when she needs to go, and holding it, which is sterling work on her part Grin but the main strategy is defo don't let her get full to bursting.)

mamapants · 23/03/2015 07:40

You are making good progress Rootypig.
We were out pretty much all day yesterday so went for nappies.
Miserable weather today so will go nappy free again

Just a couple of tips from experience. It's worthwhile noting how often they pee. I followed the 'offer to go for a wee' every 30 minutes rule to begin with and eventually realised I was getting on ds's nerves as he doesn't actually pee anywhere near that frequency. Smile Also, a selection of books to read whilst seated are a good distraction.

Will be training dc2 soon, so will be back Grin

We are on top of pee but poop is a disaster. She tends to constipation which doesn't help. Off to search the boards for wisdom!

Roseybee10 · 24/03/2015 19:19

Starting next week so following with interest. She's 2.5 and I think she's been ready for a while but didn't want to start til dd2 was born and things had settled a bit.

Pandasandmonkeys · 05/04/2015 18:54

Hi, I'm on day 3 with ds who is 2 yrs 5 months. We're about 40/60 with success so far. Poop is easier as he goes at a predictable time each day. And he thinks poo is looks really funny in the potty Grin boys eh?!
But with wees he gets so engrossed in playing he doesn't always realise he's going til it's too late
