Ds is 2.10 and has been potty training a week. it's gone so well I'm really pleasantly surprised after dreading it for so long.

He is dry overnight. We put him in a nappy before bed but he waits til it's off in the morning before he has a wee or poo. Amazing. Unexpected.

He is dry out of the house in nursery, play group etc and will use the toilet/potty.

He won't have accidents in the house if he is bare bottomed.

BUT...

if he is in pants and trousers in the house he wees in them. EVERY TIME. But never poo. Only wee...

does anyone know why this may be? And how to help him?

Could he be distracted? I know my boys used to forget to go to the loo if they were watching tv or engrossed in something.
Just keep reminding him and plonking him on the toilet every 30 mins while he's in pants at home.

It probably is that he's distracted and doesn't particularly care if he wees himself at home because it's not like he'd be ashsmed.

doesn't help that he's unwell at the moment and I only have to look at him the wrong way and he has a tantrum.

did yours ever deny the need to go/ need persuading to sit on the potty/toilet?

Yes sometimes when they were too busy with something or in a bad mood :)
Try keeping something he likes near the potty like a book or a crayon and paper and he can play with them when he sits on the potty/toilet.

I never went down the route of trying to make ds's embarrassed when they'd have accidents but I did used to make a big deal about how the wee wee goes cold - makes your bum freeeezing and we don't like cold bums bleurgh! Quick lets get some nice warm lovely dry new undies on < you get the message :)

Nice tip! Thank you.

I've been doing the whole "oh well, don't worry it's ok" so as not to make a big deal but didn't know what else to say.

He'll get there...... then of course comes the time when they do the 'nip and dance' :) :)
Something enthralling on TV or just too distracted and they need a wee. Nipping the end of the willy and dancing apparently gives them a few seconds extra before running to pee, so you have that to look forward to next :)

I just read that aloud to dh and we had a giggle. I've seen little boys doing this Grin

Thank you! Brew
