Toddler uses potty for DH but not me

DS1 is nearly 3 and we've embarked on potty training. He always hates being wet when his nappy leaks so I have taken the approach of putting him in pants in the hope that feeling wet will encourage him to use the potty instead.

When DH is home, DS1 says he needs to wee and uses the potty perfectly, even helping to clean it out. However when he's home with just me he keeps having accidents. Because he does it for DH I know he understands and can do it. So it's frustrating that we take a step back during the day even though I'm not doing anything different.

Does anyone know what I can do to get him to do it for me? We've had four accidents already this morning and my washing machine can't keep up!

Are you asking him/reminding him to go? I wouldn't leave it entirely up to him at this point.

Have you been firm with him? If he understands and can do it then there I would be quite firm about telling him weeing on the floor in not on and he MUST use the potty when he needs to go.

Then lots of praise and reward when he does go in the potty. Maybe a sticker chart or similar.

Do you make him change himself when he has an accident? A lot of times accidents can be due to laziness/too busy doing something else. If you make it more hassle to have an accident than use the potty you might find he bothers to use the potty. Get him to take the wet things off and put them in the washing machine, wash his hands, go and get his clean ones and put them on himself. That will take longer than just quickly using the potty.

At the moment I've been trying not to fuss too much when he has an accident so I might have to get firmer. I put him on the potty for five minutes and he did nothing but when we put his trousers on he did it straight away. I keep asking/reminding but he always says he doesn't need to.

I think it's so frustrating because I know he can do it.

Would you consider just letting him run around with pants on for a few days? Does he want to stand up and wee like daddy, that might make it easier for both of you.

That's what we've been doing today. As DH will be home all weekend I'm hoping it will click a bit more then.

We started potty training my LO last week over half term, he's 3.1. We let him run around with just pants on then slowly building up to trousers too. We also switched from the potty to the toilet with an insert..is that an option?

He much prefer's that then the potty and would just say no if we asked him so we just stopped asking, he got it eventually and 9 out of 10 times he is dry through the day..we've only just had a poo in the toilet though, the rest has been in pants.
