How many dry nights in a row before risking pants?

Hi, my son (5 years 2 mths) is desperate to be out of pull ups and in pants for bed. He's been dry in the day since he was 2 yrs 10 mths.

Over the last few weeks or so there have been a few occasions where he has woken up dry. Firstly it was 1 night followed by a series of wets, then 2-3 days followed by a 5 or so days of wet with the most drys being about 5 in a row followed by 2-3 wets.

I'm just wondering how many drys in a row other people have gone before trying pants? I keep telling him if he's dry Mon-Fri then he can wear pants on the Saturday (so I don't have to get up to change the bed on a school/work night!) but invariably he makes it till about Thursday then has wet pull ups again!

I know there's the hormone thing that kicks in and until then potty 'training' at night is futile, but I'm wondering whether there is anything in putting him in pants so that the sensation against his skin is different if he starts to pee in the night? Has anyone experienced this?

He's just so desperate to be dry at night and seeing his disappointment in the morning when he has a wet pull up is really heartbreaking...

TIA

I'd let him try.

I'm a bit confused about pants in bed though - DS doesn't wear anything under his pyjamas.

Thanks kingthistle. I agree about the pants thing but I think DS has been discussing it at school and another child wears pants to bed, hence the pants obsession!

It's half term next week (for him, not me) so perhaps will give it a go then. Sadly he has had a sore throat the last couple of nights and has wanted water at night for his throat so haven't had a dry pull up in the morning for a while.
