Help. My son is 3yrs and 8 months and will not under any circumanstance use the toilet or potty. I have tried literally everything from bribery to promises to letting him wet himself! Nothing is working and he is starting nursery at school in 2 weeks where they are expected to be toilet trained (I hate that word trained, like they are animals!!) I am getting very stressed as I dont want to send him to school in pants so that he wets himself as the nursery expect them to change themselves which he also isnt very good at doing!! any advice would be brilliant xx

The nursery cannot refuse to take him if he is not fully toilet trained. just send him in pull-ups and try again at half term. 8 weeks of seeing all the other children at nursery using the toilets may persuade him!

That is what I am hoping!!! Seeing the other kids will do it. Im just worried that they will stop him going. My cousins daughter got suspended 9 years ago but I think the laws have changed since then. He has the doctors on Thursday just to confirm he is ok. Thanks xx

I'm a nursery teacher and just want to reassure you that he don't be "suspended" for not being toilet trained Smile. The are children in my nursery at every stage of the process. We just ask all parents to make sure that they provide plenty of spare clothes (including tops, as these can get soaked in mis-directed wee!).

Ahh thanks fpr that. That makes me feel a lot better about things!! They are putting such a big emphasis on the toilet training that Im starting to get a lot of grey hair lol x

One suggestion would be to send him to nursery in clothes that are as easy as possible to change eg. Tracksuit bottoms, socks that are bigger rather than smaller, and t shirts that are roomy. There's nothing more frustrating for a child than trying to be involved in getting changed, when the clothes fit snugly and are difficult to take off or put on.

Unfortunately he has a school uniform but the trousers are elasticated and he will be wearing polo shirts. No doubt he will end up sockless as he cant manage those lol
