potty training regression

My 3yr old has been potty trained for roughly 18months. The last few months she has started to do little poos in her knickers.
At first I thought she just wasn't making it to the toilet in time but its getting more frequent. I've also noticed she holds it in and refuses to go to the toilet which means all throughout the day she has lots if little poos in her knickers as she won't go to the toilet to do a proper poo.

Its driving me insane as I'm having to peel off dirty knickers from her serveral times a day and she seems to constantly smell! :(

If anyone can offer some advice if there LO did this I would really appreciate it!

constipation, caused by with holding her GP will prescribe laxatives.

Our dd has had this too. It is constipation. We try and treat with extra fruit, diluted orange juice, offering more water. But the doctor can also provide something to loosen the stools. Our dd is 3 and has had two episodes like this since we started potty training 6 months ago.

It was really hard not to get cross until I realised what was causing it!

I think it was started by her having a difficult stool a few months ago which obviously hurt her. I don't think she is constipated now as sometimes after a lot of tantrum she will sit and go normally on the toilet. she just holds it and holds it as long as she can because she doesn't want to go.
I've tried ringing the health visitor for advice but they haven't got back to me. will try the GP as it can be good for her to hold it for as long as she does. :(

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the HV. Our daughter has been similar and we now don't think she is constipated either.

monkeysmother · 21/06/2014 21:47

HV was useless. Took her to the doctor in the end who prescribed a paediatric laxative. He said she wasn't constipated but had lost her confidence with going to the toilet properly so we need to make her stools as soft as possible to reassure her it won't hurt again before it became too much of a behavioural issue.

On day 4 now and so far so good no accidents and she's happy on the toilet again. Early days but Smile [s!!

fantastic news

crochetcircle · 22/06/2014 20:20

That's great. We had a good day today too - two poos in the potty with no fuss. It took a bit longer for us but I'm hoping this should sort her out now.

Our go said to use the sachet thing if she didn't have a poo that day just to stop things getting backed up again. Did you get similar advice?

monkeysmother · 23/06/2014 20:53

They said to keep going with the sachets until it was really soft stay like that for a few days to build up her confidence and the start reducing the dosage gradually.

she's still doing really well and is very proud of herself!
