Moving from potty to toilet

Just wondering if anyone has any wonder solutions for a nearly four yo DS to get him to poo on a toilet? Hes happy to pee in it, just absolutely no intention of pooing in it... I have been reluctant to force the issue as he can get constipated and the position on the potty (knees higher than bottom) is the suggested position to ease constipation but I'm wondering if its something I need to work harder on. He was late-ish potty training and I've just been pleased he's mastered it...

Sorry no real experience of this as we've not had any issues with DD progressing from potty to toilet. BUT we did make sure she had a step-stool thingy so she could easily get onto the toilet, and we got a special toilet set which had a child-sized seat you could flip down.

You'll need something to make sure he has his knees high - maybe a box or something he can rest on?

I'm wondering if you could go the route of just getting him accustomed to sitting on the toilet but with no pressure to 'perform'?

Hoping that some more knowledgeable posters will be along shortly.

Blush I didn't see the deleted comment but I would guess it had something to do with my ridiculous statement in the op about "wondering if its something I need to try harder with". I don't write many (any) threads and I didn't choose my words carefully enough - what I meant was whether I need to now ramp up the toilet aspect of poo training to level 10 as we do try and just don't get anywhere. I was hoping someone could say "try this toilet seat / step - it worked for us" is all...

MrsCosmopolite - thank you for your comment - I never envisaged the potty to toilet step would be a problem but DS really gets upset and as I said we have the threat of constipation lurking all the time which is why I won't push him into a corner on the issue as he just resists and withholds and then we get into a nasty cycle... We do have a step stool and inner child's seat but they don't help him. I think they feel a little wobbly to him?

I don't think it's something to rush. We tried potty training at 2.5 but she wasn't ready at all, although walking/talking extremely well. We left it totally 'til 2.7 and have had few issues other than a rare accident when we've mistimed how far from a toilet we are.

I didn't see the deleted comment either, so I dunno...

If it is any help, we used a 'combination' toilet seat like this - although I think we got it off ebay for around £15

I understand the connection between withholding/constipation which is why I stand by the 'not rushing'.

Does your step-stool have non-slip feet? It may just be a case of getting him used to it in other ways (standing or sitting on to brush teeth/hair) so that the use of it becomes a non-issue.

BTW, although your question's about potty training, you may get more traffic if you can get this moved to "chat"?
