Started potty training DS (2.11) on Sunday, been going really well so far as he's been naked from the waist down. He's been taking himself to the potty and had no accidents yesterday at all. I am pleasantly surprised at how well he's done. Smile

The only problem is that when he's wearing pants he wets/poos himself. I don't think he even realises he's wet done it until I tell him (he did tell me about the poo).

DP thinks we should put DS in pull ups but while I'm not ruling those out will they even help with his current issue or make it worse? I always said I thought they were a waste of time and didn't use them at all for DD when she first came out of nappies but her transition was a lot more straightforward.

He cant stay naked from the waist down much longer despite how well he's doing because as of Monday I need to take him on the school run with me and its a mile and a half each way. Should I put him back in nappies for now or try pull ups? I feel I should know this but honestly DD basically trained herself so I am literally doing this for the first time!

Do you walk the school run, and if so, does he walk it or is he in a buggy?

I once read about a mum who had a similar problem, and she made a 'special cushion' (a toweling bag, stuffed with an open nappy) that her child sat on in the car - and it would work in a buggy too. Could you do this for the duration of the run, with him in pants?

Yeah we walk with him in his buggy. could try that, thank you. he doesn't seem to know hes done a wee in his pants unless I tell him so wonder if he's actually ready? Main reason he didn't wear pants in the first place was because he chose not to (he loves to be naked). Wondering if I'd forced the pants more it would have made a difference?

Bottom line is he will get there. Using the 'cushion' will help protect your buggy, so you can put him in pants - which I think is better than pull-ups. Pull ups were just coming in when my youngest was potty training, and we did consider them, but I though they probably felt too much like a nappy - and as they absorb so well, the child can't tell when they are wet.

It might sound daft, but the more he is in pants, and the more experience he has of wet pants, the sooner he will learn to recognise that wet feeling.

Could you also encourage him to go to the loo just before setting off to school, so he has the best possible chance of getting there and back dry?

yes I think you're right. that's why I don't like the idea of pull ups. I think they're too much like a nappy. I would have put some kind of towel or something in the seat of his buggy just in case even if he was doing well.

thank you Flowers
