I have no clue what I am doing

It may have been an idea to find out how to potty train before actually starting, but so far I have just sat DS (2.6) on the potty every 15 minutes and to my amazement he has peed each time. He has then been rewarded with raisins! And he is delighted to be wearing his new stripy pants.

Is this roughly right? What do I do next? Should I be concerned that he is still doing so many small pees (6 since 9.30am) and not 'saving' them up? There is no sign of him telling me he needs to pee, and I'm sure he's only sitting on the potty in the hope of a raisin...

Help! He is now napping, back in a nappy. Is that right? Am I meant to put it back on for naps?

You are doing fine and exactly the right things.

Nappies for naps is correct for a good week or two.

Mini wees are perfectly normal for quite a while, possibly a w week or two.

For the first three or for days, he won't tell you. On about day for our five switch to the raisins being for trekking you need needs to we and a star chart for staying dry (we did it between breakfast and snack, snack and lunch etc).

It will come but not overnight. We asked ours whether he was dry instead of whether he needed to wee - that seemed to work well.

Sorry. Terrible predictive spelling. Trekking should be "telling".

Thank you so much - that's extremely helpful (and reassuring!) advice. We've only had one accident today but, as you say, no telling us he needs to go. Moving to raisins for telling us would be a great idea - I'll give that a go over the weekend.

Second, how does being dry at night work? He is still in a cot so couldn't get out to use the loo, and there's no way I'd want him roaming about freely at night in the bathroom anyway! Would I just put a potty in his room, when we finally take the cot sides off?

He has never had to hold before, Just keep trying, his sphincter muscle probably isn't very strong.

He probably won't be dry at night for a while yet, maybe even a year or more.
