Dry at night. Practicalities of removing the pullups.

DS appears to be, two months on from potty training. I think he has been for at least a month but I've been a bit nervous about taking the pullups away overnight.

How do I best go about nights? What's best to put on the bed under/over the sheet in case of accidents? He still has a gate at his bedroom door, I guess its time to remove it to allow access to the toilet, but I'm not sure he is capable of getting up in the night to go by himself, certainly can't reach the bathroom light pull. Would he even want to ever? Do we put a potty in his room? I'm pretty sure he won't think to use it. Am I overthinking this?

run out of pullups
remove the gate

Yes, you are! Put something under the sheet, I have a plastic sheet my MIL bought me but I would just put some of those Pampers things if that's cheaper, the plastic sheet has a nasty texture and needs a mattress protector on top of it.

He won't need to go in the night often enough that you're looking at training him to use the bathroom in the dark. Take gate off so he can come and find you if he needs to. He won't often need to.

waterproof mattress protector (we have a terry one with waterproof backing) with a pampers bed mat on top (means if the pee is contained in the bed mat you wont have to change everything) and then a sheet. I never put a potty in the room and the kids came to get me if they needed the toilet in the night. We had a gate at the top of the stairs rather than on the bedroom door.

no, I would leave it until you come back and he is on his own turf. He will be out of his comfort zone while you are away

Instead of getting rid of the gate, buy a cheap potty and a night light.

Also buy both a PVC sheet and an absorbent mattress protector, putter the latter on the top.

You could also add the Dry Night / Pampers pads. They are fantastic. £4.50 ish for a week's worth of accidents.
