Sorry I am basically looking for a bit of support, day 3 of potty training my 23 month old and we have managed a few wee's in the potty and I feel that we're getting there slowly but my friends have not been very supportive. I asked a lot of my mum friends how they did it etc so people knew I was potty training and when I said how we are doing I've been met with "he's too little he's not ready yet", "do it in summer when he's older it's easier", and so on. Sorry but wtf, why is this the one thing with kids that other mothers forget to be supportive on? I have had 1 friend be brilliant and supportive and that's it. When people come to me for advise on potty training I will remember to be nothing but positive for them. End of rant.

Id probably wait til summer or have a week when you don't leave the house. I didn't start til later but dd was a late walker. I would fret about it too much.

Why wait till summer how would that make a difference this is my point...I have and am not complaining about being in all day it's fine by me. Also as of the end of June I will have a new born which is why I am trying to nail it now.

That changes things a bit - congratulations! Summer just because its easier to let them be bottomless and easier if they have accidents as you can quickly change them. Just generally have more clothes to deal with in winter. Could you do the hermit thing for a week and stay home so no nappy on at all? Some children when early training will wait for the nappy to go on to toiley.

Toilet!

He may or may not be ready you'll know if after a week or two you arent getting anywhere. Then just stop and try again in a month or two. Do they have bowel and bladder control at that stage ? If so then there is no reason not to start.

Well he just managed to run to potty and have a wee wee so he's getting there....I new respect for my mum!!

I was going to say that it's generally easier the older they are and that just under 2 is very young, and that maybe think that suggesting you leave it a bit is being supportive.

But I can understand you wanting to get it done and have it established long before your newborn comes along, so I do get what you mean.

It sounds like he is doing great, and if you're ok with being at home (which is where I prefer to be in winter anyway) than carry on. And congratulations on your pregnancy :)

I think you're brilliant doing it now! I think especially with a baby on the way it's a great idea. I also am due with no 2 and the thought of 2 in nappies is mangling my brain. Good luck and try to ignore some of the comments even though it's hard. Potty training seems to provoke a lot of opinions and strong reaction but stick to your guns and good luck!

Think your going great, just posting to reassure you if it doesn't work out at this point in timed or whatever reason, that juggling potty training with a newborn wasn't too bad. DS was 2.5 and DD was 5 weeks when he started out wee'ing every nappy and had to be potty trained. I actually think he took to it better then than when we'd briefly tried in the past as he saw the baby having nappies and he wanted to be a big boy!
