Hi Ladies
My boy loves the feeling of poo in his cloth nappies. He started to dislike nappy changes around 18mths and now fights to stay in a pooey one, wet ones aren't so bad, in fact he is at his happiest/ quietist when he's in his bed room in pooey nappies playing on his hobby horse...LOL. I asked him awhile ago why he wants to stay stinky and he said with a big grin on his face "squishy poo nice" :-() so really until he dislikes the feeling of it in his nappies, Im just going to go with it and double up on the nappy liners!!!

I know Im going to face potty training soon but I'm an easy going
Mum and don't mind changing and washing his nappies.

He will be my one and only child as I am unable to have any more so I'm holding on to these baby years for as long as possible. :-)

My DS 3.3 yrs would quite happily sit in his dirty nappy all day if I let him, doesn't bother him whatsoever! I've tried PT 3 times now and just given up again after a week of bare bottom indoors. Nice, well not nice for you, to hear not all children are the same doing it at just after 2nd birthday! I too am quite relaxed about it, it's just everyone else criticising that wears a bit thin sometimes!

Definitely not just you!

My 3.7 DS is the same. Although he has not express said he likes the feeling he will sit in it for hours without demanding a nappy change. Have tried to train him so many times but he just wont so I'm just waiting a bit longer.
He will wet and soil his nappy until its so full that its weighing him down and not be fussed at all. I'm afraid to say that I take advantage of this and putt off changing him for a lot longer than I should and just leave him in his filled nappy. Its normally only when at on of my other DC's complaint that I change him. Ds1 is 12 and sometimes does it himself.
He also doesn't like waring cloves so at home he is often just in a heavy nappy.

Thank you for your replies ladies, I'm new to this board and over the last few days have been reading lots of posts of 3 + year olds not potty trained so nice to know my boy is normal. :-)

Carter16,
You mentioned that you leave your boy in wet pooey nappies for hours ! Does he not get nappy rash ? My son will eventually after an hour or so sitting / playing in his pooey nappies come to me and say " sore bum".
That's when I change him with out a fight. I use cloth nappies on him
So might be different if he was in disposables. He comes to me when his nappy is just wet and wants it changed, I think cloth nappies are helping here, he loves the squishy feeling of poo on his bum so that's why he doesn't liked to be changed straight away. One day it will click with him so no pressure for now. All the best.

Its not for hours but I don't change him imidetly. He doesn't get nappy rash, I don't leave it that long. I do however let his nappies get very wet.

Hi
Carter16 yes understand on waiting till disposable nappies are full saves a bit in the money department :) I use cloth so he gets change change every few hours, some times he will ask to be changed if the nappy is wet. We haven't had problems with nappy rash only once or twice he has had a red bum, but that was after an extended time in a pooey one.

I know what you mean abut people's criticism, my boy is big and tall for his age. When we go to the local supper market I notice a few looks from other mums with there potty trained 2 year olds, if DS happens to do a poo ( which is often the case as soon as I strap him in his car set ) he says "poo squish mummy" while trying to bounce in the shopping cart..LOL he starts to get a bit wiffy after a while doing this so that attracts even more looks.

My DS who is 3 doesn't want anything to interrupt his playing unless he is very uncomfortable. So the nappies (disposables) stay on for ages sometimes. He usually tells me when he's done a poo but sometimes he will lie and run away to play (with a little Eau de Cologne de Poo) following him :) Just depends what other exciting distractions are going on!

Just had a thought - does your child do messy play with play doh etc? If so that might be a good time to say how some things are nice squishy and some things are not so nice squishy? And see where that goes... ??? Not sure if that's a good idea as I am so not an expert ...

Batbear · 10/01/2014 21:00

My DS 3.4 had just got it. He just couldn't care less before now, everything else was more exciting!

I eventually left nappy changes a little longer, asked him to put dirty nappies in the bin etc. He could manage the odd caught wee in the potty so he knew the concept. There have been some chocolate rewards though!

It does just click though. Don't despair!

Thank you Firefyz and batbear for your input.

Firefyz,

Santa gave him some play doh for Xmas and he seams to enjoy playing with that at times but some how I feel he gets more enjoyment from squishing the poo on his bum :-() I no he has control because I mentioned to him just after breakfast this morning that we were going to the super market shortly, (I like to shop early to avoid the crowds ) he poo,s normally just after breakfast but not if we're going shopping.

So I strap him in the car seat and were on our way, not 10 minuets from leaving home I catch him in the rear view mirror pushing up with his hands on each side of his seat and turning red, poo mummy was his next words. This has happened quite a few times now, and I think the reason behind it is that he knows he never gets his nappies changed till we get home from shopping, (its just easier for both of us ) so it's Squishy poo mummy time when he's in the shopping cart...LOL. Toddlers!!!, there smarter than we take them for.
I'm really in no rush to get him out of nappies, he will get there in his own time, there only babies once, and he looks so cute in his Minki nappies.
