Poo - wiping and positioning

So sorry about the graphic nature of this question and hideous subject line but I really need to ask this as we're not going too well on number 2s training....

DS uses the toilet and didn't ever want to use the potty. We have one of those little seats with handles. At first he did his wees sitting down but then discovered standing up wees so loves that and is great for wees. He won't poo on the toilet or sit and wait to see if poo comes out.

Am reading other threads on poo issues but one problem for us could be that when he has pooed on the toilet it has turned into a bit of a faffy, stressy debacle particularly when it comes to wiping. There seemed to be no room with these little seats for me to see and wipe so he got off and touched his toes and I wiped. How do people wipe and teach them to wipe themselves??

Also, think he would like to go through the process by himself as he does with wees. We have stools to climb up but his legs still dangle. Does this make a big difference? Should I look at getting one if those little ladders??

Relax, my ds used one of those seats then got off bent over and I wiped and then got a bit independent and liked to wipe himself but still now nearly 4 does a terrible job but likes to try, he has improved just hit and miss, yuck! He didn't use the seat for long so sometimes he'll lean forwards, head between my legs and I wipe him sat down. Sounds weird but it works well for now. Legs dangling is fine so don't bother with ladders or anything in my opinion! x

Thanks so much for replying. Yes I think it would help if I relaxed. The first couple of times he pooed on the loo were such a muddle with me trying to wipe and him trying to touch the poo and me shrieking "don't touch poo!" that I think it became a bit stressy! Will try some relaxation vibes and won't buy any more equipment!

My DS is about to turn 4, potty trained a year ago and completely fine, uses toilet, but still shrieks for me when he's done to do the wiping. Yes, I still make him get off the toilet and bend over with bottom in the air ;0)
