DD is two and a half, been in pulls ups for a few weeks now and used the potty about three times a day for wees. Started potty training today. She has consistently started a wee in her knickers, told us then done the majority in her potty. No poos yet which is unusual for her. We've probably done 7-8 changes of leggings and knickers but vast majority of her wee has gone in the potty. Does this sound like a successful first day?

sarah excellent for a first day bless her things will get better and you will be there before you know it,my DD kept hers in pull-ups when they where out for a month or two after and the first thing when arriving home she used to go to get her potty,I never did potty training in the winter months but it doesn't make any difference now as most homes are centrally heated and nice and warm,go to the sales and buy loads of knickers you will need them and let her pick some herself she will be so grown up then won't she.Smile memories !!

I agree, that's a great first day! she's doing really well. just done this with DS2 before Christmas and he started much the same, peeing a bit then realising he needed to go.

Sounds very promising! I would say its easier to be without pants during the day if you are at home, pants can be confused with a nappy for the first couple of weeks especially if she wears a nappy overnight.

Hi Sarah

Can I join your thread?! I seem to be doing day one of potty training today.

How is yours going three days in?

My DD has used the potty on and off for the last 3 months and almost everyday over the last week, so she seems ready. She occasionally says her nappies are itchy and as we are stuck indoors as I have the lurgy (DD is fine) this seems like the time.

This morning she has had two wees on the potty. I'm sure she is rolling her eyes at me when I keep asking if she wants to go. How often do people ask their DCs? MN page suggests every 20 minutes but she just says no! Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks.

Hiya we started today and are in exactly the same position Sarah, ds starts where he stands then stops in time to do the rest in the potty no poo yet we usually have two a day so hopefully it will happen soon. Working Thursday and Friday so it will be up to nursery and gran to keep it going. Was going to wait till I was on holiday but felt he was totally ready!!!

Hiya everyone looking for some thoughts, started potty training 3 days ago reminding him a lot he has only managed to the itty a couple of times before starting to pee usually he starts then tells me and the majority goes in the potty. I would have thought by day three he would be able to feel it more regular. Yesterday we had no poos at all ( seemed to be holding) and today we gave had two in his pants, I was asking him if he needed as I suspected he was doing one to which he replied "no" otherwise he can go long periods dry and seems to notice just as he starts peeing. Is he ready? he's 21 months or just a bad day?

Mine DS was almost 4!!!! Very late I know, but he refused point blank before. Then he did days and nights in the space of a few days. No accidents since. Wait until ready. Far easier, and much less stressful all round. (Though saying that I did have numerous stressful attempts before this final easyish attempt.) Girls are usually quicker and more willing than boys. People/friends/nursery give far too much pressure to toilet train.

Thanks chilli it is stressful reminding him and cleaning poop up!!! Due dc #2 in August think I may have panicked. On Monday and Tuesday I did feel there was some improvement but as I say today has been a disaster

Hi, was just trawling looking for some advice with my DS and this thread seems to be very similar - mind if I ask how things are going?
DS is 2.4, due DC2 in April which is why I'm trying quite early (and in winter!!) But I do think he's ready as he's happy to use the potty/ training seat and had started to say 'I'm just weeing/ pushing' of his own accord. Have been potty training for about a week now but a bit clueless as to whether I'm doing things right. So far:
Just in pants or no bottoms when at home
In pull ups to go out (except when at playground which is a stone's throw from home)
In pull ups for naps and night time
I think we're having more successes than accidents, only one wee accident today but yesterday was much worse!
Often he says 'I'm just weeing' then holds most of it in for the potty. The rest of the time prompting every half hour works fine.
3/4 poos in potty - rest in nappy whilst asleep

So my question is does he seem like he's making good progress?
Does putting him in pull ups to go out confuse him too much? He now says in a worried voice that he's weeing when we're in the car (in a nappy) and I have no option of taking him to the toilet anyway. I don't want him having accidents in ball pits etc until I know he's got more control but equally don't want to confuse him with sometimes putting him in a nappy and sometimes not.
And how long should I realistically expect it to take?

DSD was one of those kids who at 2.5 just said she didn't want nappies anymore and went dry instantly so have no suitable comparison. Really don't want to push him and prolong the process unnecessarily or cause issues.
Any advice much appreciated!
