This is what dd said this morning whe I asked if she wanted her nappy off. We were supposed to be starting potty training again but dd was up all night so decided to ask her. I'm not sure where to go from here dd is 2.8 so not late really but each time we have tried since the summer poo seems to be the stumbling block starting with refusing to go on the potty to witholding and making herself constipated. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Try sitting her on the toilet in her nappy at 1st for a poo, & do all nappy changes in the bathroom, letting her see you using the toilet as well will probably help. You want her to associate the toilet & bathroom as where toilet stuff happens

After she's comfortable with that, then cut a hole in the nappy so that the poo can fall into the toilet & eventually get rid of the nappy.

Take your time, let her get comfortable with each step before you move on.

Poo goes to pooland seems to help most children & of course don't forget good old bribery, a few sweets or tv time or whatever would work best for her.

Oh yes & blowing bubbles while sat on the loo.

The action makes them push & hopefully distracts them as well.

It seems to work anyway Smile

I think poos ate always harder than wee's with potty training.

My experience and that of my friends is that the children get dry and then it's another few months at least until they happily and regularly poo in loo.

Is there a reason why you're potty training? Have you thought of just leaving it till she wants to? That's what we did. At the time I thought she would be the last child in nappies out of her peer group. But a little before her third birthday she just said she didn't want nappies any more. And it made training so easy. Still had her withholding poo and pooing in bedtime nappy for ages though.

Actually come to think of it she did a poo in bedtime nappy about a month ago and she's three and a half now
