We were doing so well but starting to think he may be too young? Long, sorry.

DS is 2.3yo. He has been out of nappies (and dry) for almost 2 months.

There are two similar problems - holding in wee and holding in poo.

1 - he soon got fed up of me asking him to sit on the potty so he 'got it' very quickly - end of first day. He started asking me to go to the potty and all was good. I carried on asking him to go before we left the house and he started to get fed up of this pretty quickly too and began saying nooooo every time I asked him. So for the last 3 weeks or so, he has just not weed at all unless I manage to sit him on the toilet in a good mood before we go out. Over the last few days he has been more compliant and does wee when I ask him to, but I don't think he'd ever actually ask as he seems capable of holding it in for hours. Otherwise he holds it in ALL morning until his nap or at bedtime when he gets a nappy. Is this just great bladder control, is he not getting enough water, or is he genuinely just fed up of the toilet and wld rather not interrupt his playning with having to go wee. I suspect it is all three really. I am worried that it is bad for him to hold it in so long. (sometimes 6 hrs at a time)

2 - For the first 3 days of training he did a poo on the toliet. I was amazed, because for months he had only pooed in his nappy on waking in the morning, never during the day. I probably made too much of a fuss of him for pooing on the potty as I gave him stickers. Since then he has gone back to only pooing in his nappy. He poos pretty much as soon as he wakes up in the morning. I feel life is too short to set my alarm for 6am to wait for him to wake so I can put him on the potty. He is still in a cot so can't get up and go on his own. And anyway, I know that if I got him up before he'd pooed then he'd just hold it in until naptime. He gets bored sitting on the toilet for more than 30seconds and would never have the patience to poo.

I'm beginning to feel that although we never have accidents, he's not truly potty trained. And I feel that he may have been too young (although he was seemingly ready)

Not really sure where to go from here, seems pointless to go back to nappies and I don't want to push the poo issue as he is prone to constipation so I don't want to end up down that road. A friend has suggested that the only way is to take him out of nappies for all sleep times too (her kids were dry at night the same week as they were dry during day, highly unlikely I know for my DS) I feel that is too much pressure and will make him constipated.

Sorry this is so long and rambling. Just a bit worried I've screwed up here.

Thanks

So the pooing is just because its first thing in the morning. Is he still in a cot? Maybe when he goes into a bed he can start going to the toilet when he wakes up. The wee thing it's incredible how long they can go. I would try to get him to drink more if you are worried. I also wouldn't put a nappy on him for lunchtime nap.
