Please help, I'm in a bit of a tizz about this: started potty training DD (2.5) today, the second attempt in about three months (first wasn't successful so was abandoned.) Have been putting her in pants or nothing and trying to coax her onto the potty. Several accidents and she is resolutely refusing to use the potty/toilet at all. Just won't go near it and screams if any mild coercion is employed.

Have tried some low-level bribery but she isn't responding, just says she doesn't want to go on the potty.

DH thinks we should call it off and wait until she's more responsive but she is in nearly full-time daycare and I have a week off next week so wanted to try to crack it then as I won't have another chance until Xmas.

Any advice?

Leave it. She is clearly not ready. I was upset when DD was 2.10m and still in nappies. However just after 3rd birthday she did it in a few days, no accidents, and 3 weeks later she was dry all night . Being a bit later is no indication of intelligence. DD got to Oxford.

Thanks. Its just frustrating because she seems ready in many ways, is clearly very aware when she's pooing and weeing etc. I guess I just have to wait.

Definitely leave it. If she's getting distressed it'll be counter-productive. Leave it a while and she'll let you know when she's ready.

I think my DD was well aware of what she was doing but she liked nappies. I bought lovely knickers! I even went to the Doctor to chat about it because she seemed doing so well on every other front. He just said that she would let me know and to stop fretting. Avoid eye contact and chat at changing time. The plus side of waiting is that you have no mess on the floor! I read a post a few days ago about how to clean a wee filled carpet!

What is the issue with her being in daycare? Potty training is part of the care surely? Have you talked about it with them?
