DD is almost 2 and for the last couple of weeks we've been taking her nappy off each evening when she gets home from nursery. We get a couple of wees and sometimes a poo in the potty/toilet and haven't had an accident for ages. Great! We've even mastered flushing it away without screaming fits of "MYYY WEEE-WEEE MUMMYYYY". She's probably ready to stick some pants on and brave it, but she's at nursery every day for the next few weeks (I work part time but on a crazy shift pattern that means full time for a few weeks then some days off).

Do we keep doing the same and wait for some time off? It will come eventually, but I've been warned (repeatedly) about missing the boat. Do we try at the weekend and leave the second steps to nursery (this seems inherently unreasonable, but tempting nonetheless)? Or do we try a longer period without nappies and then if we're not there, go back to nappies until the following weekend to try again? This seems like a backwards step and may confuse her.

Can't nursery support you? My DS had a very successful experience when he's been in as he sees others going. I don't think you should worry too much about missing the boat.

Probably they would! I imagine being asked to take up the potty training baton being my idea of hell, but I'm not a nursery worker - I'll have a chat with them this week and see what their views are. She's one of the oldest in her room (although still very little) - they tend to move up age two - so she's not got the benefit of seeing others go as yet. I'm not too worried about the boat - it's the MiL Grin

Our twin girls have turned 2 recently and started potty training 2 weeks ago. They go to nursery 2 days a week and nursery is very happy to train them. Seeing other children using potty is a huge plus. It is best to talk to nursery staff and if they also think your little girl is ready, go for it! Just make sure you pack plenty of spare trousers and training pants (I pack 8 pairs for 2 girls)! Also 2 extra pairs of socks and 1 extra pair of shoes or crocks per child. When they started training, I was given a supermarket carrier bag full of washing when I went in to pick the girls up. But it will get better.

Well I've spent this week washing lots of trousers, so we're good to go. Had a chat to her keyworker this week and she's more than happy to join in the fun. Half day today so we're going knickers shopping!
