Dry for nearly a year in the day but can't seem to manage nights

We had a relatively stress free transition from nappies to pants last October. A few mishaps since but nothing major or prolonged.

I feel that I've missed the boat now with nappies at night and he's never going to learn! He sleeps so deeply, always has, and rarely wakes unless he's ill or too hot. How can he learn to wake for a pee?!

He's 3.5. Has anyone else had a deep sleeper? How did you succeed in getting them out of nappies at night?

P.S. I am not complaining about the deep sleep issue, it's a godsend, really!!

It's a hormone. Once they produce the hormone they can be dry at night. Before that they can't. My dd2 is 4.9 and not yet dry at night, my dd1 was dry at 3.6. there was some useful advice re drinking more on this thread. I am trying not to worry, just wish i didn't have to buy nappies any more. Particularly as they were both in washable nappies when they wore them full time.

I don't think this is even considered an issue before kids are about 7?
Like Janek said, it can take a while before the particular hormone kicks in.
3.5 is still young, don't worry.
