Just gearing up for the whole thing and wondered if there are any particular potties that people recommend in general and specifically for boys, if that makes a difference.

Well. I have 2. One was £1.99 from a bargain shop. Bog standard plastic potty. The other was £24.99 from tesco direct. All mod cons. Padded seat, splash guard, turns into a step etc.

Guess which one DS preferred? Wink

I'd recommend a traditional, cheap potty!

Haha, typical!
Does anybody skip straight to toilet seat, or is a potty a compulsory first stage?

Dc2 went straight to toilet

But she was spectacularly easy to train and was done in 2 days - only had 2 accidents as well

My others used potties for quite a while. I'd go for cheapest!

I potty trained my dc with a potty at home but often forgot it when we were out so from day 2 he was using a mix of potty and toilet and chose to use the toiler exclusively 10 days after we started potty training. When I say toilet I mean without a seat - just held him/taught how to sit properly and then we progressed to standing up a few days later.

We got the fisher price frog potty, as DS had such long legs he wasn't comfortable sitting on a low cheapo one. It also has a raised bit at the front to stop rogue wee and a removable part to empty/wash.

highly recommend for tall boys.

We used the cheap tesco suff. Bought 2 potties and a toilet seat thing about a year ago. Started actual training at the beginning of the holidays, DS is pretty much there now and we're trying to move him from potty to toilet.

I would recommend the pottette travel potty, it's saved us a few soakings in the last fortnight!

Ooh yes travel potties are great too. Don't buy the refill bags though they are £££. Just use carrier bags with kitchen roll in the bottom for absorbency.

Another vote for the fisher price frog potty here. It has a lovely high splashguard - ds has never ever peed over the front of his potty. Not to mention the nice high seat, sturdy, colourful & removable central container for easier emptying.

Tippitoes has a nice high frontage...

Although now DS is starting to use real toilets, the practicing of "is your willy pointing down? Check!" Is paying off!

Who knew they get all curled up like that?! DH apparently a non specialist potty means we've practiced the 'unfold and point' routine!

I had several - to start with a potty chair as it was more stable and ds could sit down and get up easily, a regular potty for other parts of the house which ds3 used backwards, and a small regular potty to carry around in a plastic bag.
