Help - DS just did a poo in a play area...

He is 5, and fully potty trained. We went to the park (with his brother who is 2) and DS1 disappeared. I went around calling, panicked.
He reappeared and said sorry, he needed a poo. I said ok let's go, but he said he was ok after all. However, he was walking funny and said he had got something on his shorts. I quizzed him whether he had done a poo in his pants, but he said no; I asked what the brown gunk on his shorts was and he said it was mud. (It certainly looked like poo...). I quizzed some more, checked his pants (clean) and we left the park so that he could do a poo. Eventually he stopped lying and said he had gone into the trees, done a poo, and wiped his bum on some leaves. Shock

OK, so what do I do? I have told him off - there are no loos in the park, and his only excuse was that he said he couldn't hold on. Should I punish? Shoudl I punish him for lying about it? (Thing is, he nearly got away with it - apart from getting it on the hem of his shorts he was clean.) He obviously knows it's not on, or he wouldn't have lied. Er, at a bit of a loss.

p.s. I am totally horrified at the pile of poo somewhere in the park.

Oh god, my brother did this once on holiday but threw his shitty pants over a fence...

They hit a passer by! Shock

I think my mum just told him off and said we couldn't go to the park for a week. He did have a slightly funny tummy though so she didn't want to be too harsh...

That poor passer by Grin

(he was 4, nearly 5 at the time)

DS3 defiled an ancient ring of standing stones when he was 8, it has become known as the Fingal's Cauldron incident and we still make jokes about it. I don't think you should ever make children feel ashamed of toile ting incidents unless it is deliberate.

LOL at the pooey pants incident! I suppose I'm horrified because I'm not 5 and don't poo in public. I'll let it go- obv we've left the park and he has been told off for lying.

Admittedly if he had come to me and said he needed to go urgently I'm not sure what I could have done- it's a 15 min walk home.

Oh I hope it's out of the way... Children could step in it...Shock

You did the right thing - he's still little and parks which don't have toilets really annoy me - it is obvious that young children will be there, and young children don't always plan ahead on these things, especially when they are having fun.

Had 2 poo incidents with Ds, one was not long after pt and said he needed a wee while at library so took him outside to wee by car out of sight but this big poo came plopping onto and rolled down the pavement. Seem to remember tissues were limited so had to wrap it up and rush home in a very stinking car, lol.
Next time on hols climbed up some big hill and ds would be 4 I think, needed a poo, so had to let him go in the bushes, again very limited tissues again and no bag so had to hope someone thought a dog had to left it behind Blush
Moral of story, especially as pt DD at present always ensure have packet of tissues in pocket, lol. Grin

Lol flowerfairy! And funny about the lack of tissues - I carry wipes because DS2 is in nappies, but I had left them on a bench at this very time. (I picked them up on my way back - but didn't have them when I needed them!)

But the more I think about it, the more I feel for DS1 really, because there is no toilet, and I suppose the only thing I could have done if he had come to me was send him into the bushes (and go with him, obv, to supervise, although not easy with DS2 on the slide!!) Yes - this is London, so why no toilets near the play area?? The play area is quite a way from the main road/car park etc, and in the middle of the common.
