Don't think fanny works well here in Scotland, too many times of hearing ' you're a wee fanny' hurled at people as an insult. I'm watching this thread with interest as DD 11 months, gina sounds good as always teach the kids the real names first ie the boys know its called a penis but refer to as willy.

BabsAndTheRu · 11/07/2013 22:24

Just read wilma, genius.

Onetwo34 · 11/07/2013 22:27

Yeah we went with vulvie, kind of like the actual word but slightly twee-ed up.
I do like foof though actually. Hmm. I wonder if I can introduce that too.

BonzoDooDah · 11/07/2013 23:33

Rummikub - tuppence and flower make me ill too!
I talked this over so much with everyone I didn't know what to do but did plump for Fanny as it is unambiguous.

My DD went to her friend's house, picked a daisy in the garden and asked her friend's father if he wanted to see her flower. Poor girl had NO IDEA why he was backing away and averting his eyes!

Rummikub · 12/07/2013 00:01

bonzo that's hilarious! I also wanted an unambiguous word. And being a mum to a daughter I wanted her to be proud to be female not ashamed. Growing up we didn't even have a word for our bits! Boys are so proud of their willies so why can't girls be of their fannies?? Obviously I'm not saying show your bits to everyone and give the message to my dd that her bits are hers and private. So many issues to consider.

elQuintoConyo · 12/07/2013 00:07

Bonzo I don't think that's hilarious, I think hat's awful and why such stupid bloody euphemisms should be avoided.

Free the fanny Grin

Rummikub · 12/07/2013 00:21

Yes yes we need a campaign name. Fanny freedom fighters? FrOK- Fannies r ok? That's all I got. quinto I agree that the euphemisms aren't helpful. It was just the image of the scene made me chuckle!

PoppyAmex · 12/07/2013 05:03

Henrietta I think you've got my vote

Willy for boy
Wilma for girl

MojitoMagnet · 12/07/2013 06:26

I've been using the word Yoni after having learned the term here on MN

BonzoDooDah · 13/07/2013 01:12

elQ precisely why I'm a "Fanny Fighter"
No? Not got the right ring to it? FoofFighters was taken Grin

elQuintoConyo · 13/07/2013 09:46

Arf at FoofFighters

I don't understand why there must be a 'euphemism' for vulva, rather than a 'socially polite' name, like Willy.

It was fannies all around when I was growing up. It wasn't until I joined MN that I found out there are all sorts of names, most of them twee and absolutely vomit-worthy.

My all time favourite name is Bajingo (I'd been watching too much Scrubs).

I have named my own Anastasia von Beaverhousen (long befire 50shades of bollocks) Grin

BonzoDooDah · 13/07/2013 23:56

Utterly pmsl! Grin

Turniptwirl · 21/07/2013 19:49

Had one brownie loudly announce several times that she was up to her doodie in the bucket if water she had decided to sit in

I think I used fanny or privates as a child

IShallCallYouSquishy · 21/07/2013 19:52

My DD is only 14 months but whenever I'm talking to her when doing her nappy I always just say "girly bits" it's not twee and silly but not something you would Blush at hearing from a child's mouth as she got older either.

chocolatemartini · 21/07/2013 19:54

Yoni is fantastic. I'd love that to become widely used. I would happily talk about my yoni Grin

filee777 · 21/07/2013 19:55

It's a fanny. The nspcc strongly advise against 'pet' names for body parts, for a variety of reasons

pipsqueakz · 21/07/2013 19:56

Dd8 calls it her flower she also says that when I had her and her brothers she came out the lady way (natural birth) and the boys came out of the sun roof (section) lol.

PurpleGirly · 21/07/2013 19:56

I think the word fanny only works in some parts of the country. We had this discussion in the pub recently and London friends thought it OK and us from up North thought it vulgar...

lj123 · 21/07/2013 20:24

I've always used Minnie but a friend says moo moo or noonie

Carolra · 21/07/2013 20:28

Faffy in this house. Or fanjo between adults.

Girl at uni called hers a "furry beetle bonnet".

VisualiseAHorse · 21/07/2013 21:45

How do you pronounce Yoni?

I always called it my Minni as a child, and would probably use Minni, Foof, or Fanny.

SupermansBigRedPants · 22/07/2013 16:19

Yo - like yo high 5

Ni - neigh like horsy neigh.

Grin
UriGeller · 22/07/2013 16:26

My niece was taught to use vulva.

She's two. She calls it her Voover. Grin

VisualiseAHorse · 22/07/2013 22:11

Voover is genius.
