How do you know when you're child is ready not to wear nappies at night? Perhaps DS is still not using his potty because he knows he can go for the lazy option?
He wakes up with a clean nappy 2 mornings out of 3.

Thanks all!

Try leaving the pull ups off but "lifting" before you go to bed. My daughter is 6 and still sometime has little phases of wetting the bed, a week of lifting her and she's dry again.

Essentially you are just lifting them straight out of bed without trying to wake, plonk on toilet, wee, straight back to bed. About 10/10.30 pm.

My son used pull ups at night on and off until he was 10. He is now dry at night, I don't think the pull ups made any difference whatsoever, he just wasn't ready to be dry before this. I had periods of time where I didn't use them but often went back to them when the washing got too much.

No you are not delaying him if he is not ready.

thank you all - interesting suggestion the "lifting", elvisola...

jake what did you do about sleepovers and school trips. ds (8) is still not dry

My middle DS is 8 and only just dry through the night with the odd accident .. We didn't use pull ups though as they were giving him a 'sweat rash' even if he'd been dry -- we have those rubbery under sheets from ikea and they've worked well for us, because we know when he's had an accident ( we were starting to worry it was medical so were keeping a diary) some kids just take longer than others ..

drwitch .. My friend is a head teacher and been in many a school trip, we asked him what we'd do about our son on away trips and he said we'd be surprised at the amount of children over 10 who still use something at night, I think it's a case of letting a teacher know so they can let them get changed discreetly ? I've used pull ups in the past for the odd sleep over ..

5 isn't very old for this, but if he's dry two nights out of three I would push itm using the suggestions upthread. DD1 is 4.5 and finally cracked it, but there was never a point where she was dry at night prior. If your DS is, then he's reached the point where the...hormoney whatsit...has kicked in that means the body retains wee when the body is sleeping.
