Any good tricks for toilet training?

I'm having trouble with toilet training our 3 yr old. She's good at knowing when she needs to wee and asking to go to and then taking her trousers and knickers down, even sitting on the toilet or potty - but she won't let go and do the wee! She insists she's done a wee when she hasn't. We're having lots and lots of little accidents in her trousers.
I did manage to get her to go by sitting her on the potty with a "magic nappy" - one with a hole cut in it so the wee actually went in the potty, but not since.
Do you have any other ideas for helping her use the toilet or potty?

Bribery. one chocolate button for wees and two for poos :o

Also we invested in a ducky potty that quacks when you wee on it. this worked excellently for our dd.

Blow bubbles when on potty - fun, and relaxes the muscles, helping her to go
You close your eyes and have to listen out for the wee coming, make it into a game.

These two tips from our HV helped me loads!

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately bribery didn't work - she insisted she's done a wee when she hasn't to get the chocolate/stickers. I'll let you know about the bubbles.

Great news - the bubbles worked, well Daddy blowing bubbles kept her on the potty and I had to tickle her as well before she wee'd - but she did! I think taking her to buy a new potty and choose the bubbles also helped.

We'll see if it still works tomorrow. Any other similar gimmicks for if it wears off?

My three year old isn't trained, but hates us looking at her when she wees. We're going to try again next week putting her in her bedroom and leaving her to it regularly to see if she's inherited my bashful bladder. I'll let you know how it goes!

Finally on 15 DD asked to sit on the potty this evening, sat on it properly (well, backwards, but that's how she prefers) and deliberately did a wee!!

I think there's something in the bashful bladder. She does a bit better at nursery where the potty is in a toilet cubicle.

All seems to be a confidence thing.
