Hi all,
i have been trying to potty train my toddler for about a month now, we started off by putting her on the potty at regular intervals but she still has numerous accidents (by lunchtime today on 3rd pair of trousers). Problem is that she starts doing a little bit of wee in her pants, then realises and asks for the potty. she then does the rest of the wee in the potty. She is better with poos. Have I started too early? or am i being unrealistic to expect her to have cracked it within 6 weeks. She has moved house and also had a new sister within the last 4 months but was still expecting a bit of progress by now? Thanks for any advice.

Hello,
Firstly try not to get too stressed. If I were you I would give up and try again in a couple of months. I don't think it should take so long to successfully potty train a child, it's just a matter of starting the training at the right moment. With DD2 we tried at about the same age and with a baby in the house and after a couple of weeks we didn't see any improvement (we were keeping a record) so we stopped. We tried again about a month or two later and this time we were successful in about a week or so! I think potty training, like sleeping through the night or eating solids etc can be one of those things that we are made to feel a failure for if we don't have cracked by a certain magic age which is invariable unrealistically young IMHO. Also I would say that potty training is easier to do when the weather is warmer as you can let your little one run around with just pants on without worrying about the cold.
Good luck!
