Bed protection for newly nappy free toddler at night

Dd1, who is 2.8, decided 10 days ago that she doesn't want to wear nappies any more at night. I was surprised, as her nappy isn't dry in the mornings, but I put a potty in her room, and so far, she has managed to wake up to use it most times. However, this evening she wet the bed, and although I'd put a towel under her, I still ended up changing the sheets.

I've seen something called Brolly sheet, which are a protector that go on top of the sheet, but they're very expensive, so I wonder what others do, to save having to change all the sheets?

Well, we've always had hippychick mattress protectors, so just keep them on under the sheets. We also have a second duvet, and so keep that in a cover, and then its a case of bedding off, new sheet on, and covered duvet on - old or new depending on needs.

I've heard people suggest waterproof sheet, sheet, waterproof sheet, sheet on the bed, and then just take off the top layer if you need to.

Its a stage which doesn't last long - DS1 also announced no night nappies about that age.

Thank you, reassuring to know it hopefully won't last! Layering might be a good option. After I posted, I did find an absorbent pad to go under the child, on a cloth nappy website, so might give one of those a go.

we get the disposable pampers bed sheet things, its about £3 for 7 so probably not very economical, but in the middle of the night I don't care!

Ikea mattress protectors!

Towelling mattress protectors from John Lewis. Towel material one on side and plastic on the other and then sheet on top.

Thank you for the replies. I probably wasn't very clear in my op. I've got a mattress protector from Ikea, under the normal sheet. I was thinking more about something extra under my daughter, to avoid having to strip the bed. The Pampers mats might be handy to have, if this isn't going to happen often.

Hipy Chick sheets are fab. Soft and easily usable. Very secure. I still have mine on DD's bed and she's nearly 5. I never really need it but if she's sick it's fab. Reminds me to get one for DS.

The Ikea sheets are the cheapest I have found £5 each, and work fine. I just put it on the bed under the sheet, to protect the matress in case of accidents. I think Pampers do a pack of disposable mattress protectors, but I imagine they would work out expensive if you need to use them a lot.

We use a sandwich approach... disposable bed mat, sheet, disposable bed mat topped with another sheet (I am sure this would work with other waterproof protectors). If there is an accident in the night you can remove the wet bedding without the hassle of making the bed again.

Oops just realised it has already been suggested. Works though.

We use the Hippychick cot size waterproof sheets, laid over the top of the normal sheet in the area that might get wet. They are comfy and soft to lie on plus small to wash and dry.

I use Brolly Sheets. They are by far the best. Comfortable to sleep on, easy to change and have lasted through countless washes. Well worth the money. Makes changing a wet bed really easy.

Hi I bought some disposable bed mats from home bargains for a couple of quid. Well worth it! We've almost run out so today I bought some equivalent one from Sainsburys. Huggies maybe?

I got some washable ones from Snuggleblanks. I love mine. The lady that makes them has different fabrics so you can get different styles. Worth a look.
