How much did you spend on a potty?

Thought I'd give potty training a go and asked my friend is there anything she would recommend. And so she did... Fisher price singing potty at almost £40. My common sense told me to embrace my penny-pinching side and get the £1 one from morrisons instead. So I did, but little one wasn't interested in it at all. Off I went to Argos for the £40 one. There's a bit more interest, but what bugs me is... Is it sensible to spend that amount of money... On a potty?! Would like to hear your stories... :)

£40 sounds ridiculous for a potty to me! Children don't have to be interested in them surely, they're not a toy Confused

I just used a cheap ikea one and gave DS a chocolate button/lots of praise when he used it.

icapturethecastle · 18/09/2012 22:08

99p one from wilkinson and chocolate button as well! Worked with both my two.

dysx8 · 18/09/2012 23:32

Interested was probably wrong word to use. She didn't seem comfortable to sit on the pound one, because of the bit that goes between their legs. Hope that makes sense.

I used a 99p one from somewhere like morrisons

BertieBotts · 18/09/2012 23:35

Splash guard is more for boys I think?

I just got a cheap one from asda.

Goldidi · 18/09/2012 23:36

99p from morrisons.

numptymark1 · 18/09/2012 23:41

I got a posh one from mothercare (well it was a fiver)
cue screaming fits

then I got a blue 99p one
cue more screaming fits

then I got a pink 99p one
cue more screaming fits

then the conversation went.....

DD, you have all these lovely potties and you won't sit on them, you want to wear big girl knickers so why won't you sit on the potty?

.....because big girls use the toilet mummy!

didn't bother with a potty for dd2

Fuchzia · 18/09/2012 23:56

Cheap Wilkos one and a pack of stickers to stick on the potty for every successful use. Amazing what small children will do for stickers.

Nevercan · 19/09/2012 07:25

Asda 95p one and lots of encouragement! You can always sell it on I guess...

scarlettsmummy2 · 19/09/2012 07:33

My daughter never used a potty! Flat out refused. She went straight to the loo.

pumpkinsweetie · 19/09/2012 07:33

As a mother of 4, i can simply say no to spending £40 on a pottyShock!!!
Complete madness and a strain on financesGrin
If a child is ready he or she is ready, if they are not interested no amount of posh potties will temp them unfortunetly as i well i know after spending £25 on a all singing, all dancing potty for pfb many years ago after her not using her £4 one-guess what she still wasn't interested and my other dds were all the same !

HauntedLittleLunatic · 19/09/2012 07:35

Nothing.

I was given one.

wishiwasonholiday · 19/09/2012 07:37

I got the singing potty and it was brilliant, ds1 started using it straight away and loved it, we have had our money's worth cos it's still in use 5 years later with ds2 and I'm a cm.

celebmum · 19/09/2012 07:42

I got a couple from £land so I can have one upstairs and one down.. And one of those toilet seat inner things to stop DS falling in the loo! Wilko's £1.25!

All working/being used a treat so far! Grin

tethersend · 19/09/2012 07:44

I spent a penny on mine Wink

RikersBeard · 19/09/2012 07:54

Got given one (from the 70s) and spent about £10 for one with a train on so we have 1 upstairs 1 downstairs. He prefers the beige, 40yr old one that has been stored in the loft and has no pictures.

TeuchterInTheCity · 19/09/2012 08:00

I was given one but DD refused to use it, she just has an insert seat on the big loo. Agree when they're ready, they're ready and the type of potty is inconsequential.

jaggythistle · 19/09/2012 14:41

cheap one from Mothercare.

Emptying a potty is quite literally a shit task though so couldn't wait to get him on the toilet!

Spent a bit more and got babybjorn toilet trainer seat as the cheap one I got slid about everywhere.

babyrose · 19/09/2012 17:20

Bought a cars one from Amazon £30 he uses it well abd then decided to buy one for the big toilet and also to use as a portable when we eventually start going out stage.
