My 2.5 yr old asked for a potty after reading "Pirate Pete's Potty" (potty training book) so we decided to get him one. We're in week 2 of potty training now and, although he never has accidents at home, where we let him wander around naked/in just pants, as soon as we get trousers on him or take him out he has accidents. He doesn't seem to get enough warning that he's going to do a wee or hasn't quite got the concept of asking to use the potty and pulling his trousers down.

Should we persevere or give up and try again in a little while? We're at about day 10 and the number of accidents is not decreasing... Alternatively, should we carry on with the potty at home and put him in nappies to go out? I've heard that this will confuse him and that it has to be all or nothing?

Hi. From experience keep going and do not put nappies when u go out. He seems like he is ready and you will prob confuse him and maybe find it more difficult second time round. Most of my friends boys at that age don't even want to sit on the potty! I've been lucky as both my girls were fairly easy but we did have lots of accidents which is natural.... I just kept reminding myself to put them on the toilet every 20mns or so. Very tedious but it worked. I think in one half hour session of monkey music I must have asked my daughter no less than 50 times if she needed a wee. I did get some funny looks !

Just FYI, when my daughter was 2 she was potty trained but we took her on holiday and put swimmers on her and when we came back she was obviously confused as we had lots f accidents again....and not just wee ths time !

Hope this helps.... Good luck.

Thanks. Will keep going then and see how we get on. Our problem is that DS is very independent (read stubborn) so if we suggest sitting on the potty he instantly says no. He only wants to sit on it when he wants to sit on it. At the moment he's getting a sweet every time he does a wee/poo, which is working well. Perhaps we need to up that to two sweets! Thanks again.
