Is it ok to keep telling them to go?

My ds is near perfect using the potty when naked. Unfortunately as soon as he wears pants he wets them. He has improved by just doing a small amount of wee in his pants and then when i notice i take him to the potty and he does the rest.
He never asks for the potty so I end up telling him to go cos its been a while or taking him as i notice the little wet patch.
Is this ok, will he eventually start telling/asking me when he needs to go? Or should i stop telling him and wait for him to ask, in which case he is likely to wee in his pants?

I would keep telling him, But stretch out the times you tell him gradually. ALso vary how you tell him the old "are you going for a wee before me or after me". "You go for a wee and I'll turn Cbeebies on as soon as you are finished". Always go before you out.

He will eventually start to tell you -(or clutch his bits and hop around a bit like my 4yo still doesGrin).

And big up the dry pants (I did a "dry pants dance" and he got a piggy back round the room if he had totally dry pants. Then a marble to put in the marble jar - which when full made a treat. Slightest even 5p sized accident was just dealt with with a change of clothes( often just the pants) and no dance. If he asked for the dance I would just remind him to ask next time.

Good luck - sounds like you are there!

Thanks fishfinger!
Booki I remind him a lot and ask him but he always says no! So I am actually telling him to go sometimes now!
