Potty training - carpet throughout house!

My DS is showing some signs of being ready to potty train. He will also sit happily on the potty for a while between nappy changes although has never done anything on it yet. Ideally I would start letting him stay nappy free around the house for longer, and try to teach him to use the potty for wee's etc, but we have cream carpet throughout our house Sad what should I do instead?

Get lots of kitchen roll and carpet cleaner and once he is more practiced at it, get your carpets cleaned properly. It is what we did, it actually was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, only a couple of days of random wee's before he got the hang of it.

Fab, thankyou. Just not sure if I'm brave enough to start yet until he's completely ready :)

My advice would be to wait if you think you should, also I forgot to mention my ds did most of his wee's on the sofa and I found the cheap primark throws worth their weight. I waited and waited with ds and he was clean and dry (for the most part with the odd to be expected accident) in a week. Also, start a thread on here, I did, and found a handful of lovely ladies doing exactly the same at the same time, we had a catch up every evening to see how the day had been. Good luck.

I'm also wondering if my DS is ready to potty train...and i also have carpet everywhere other than my kitchen and bathroom!

He's began fiddling with his nappy when he' been to the toilet, and he also stops whatever hes doing and stands there... He's 1 and a half now so he can't obviously tell me he needs to go but he seems ready!

We should start a thread...Potty training bootcamp?? then we can do it together...and whoever else wants to join?? x

My sister did this. Lots of activities in the kitchen. And lots of Vanish!

When potty training my dd, we had a potty in the living room, one in the downstairs toilet, one in her bedroom and one in both of the upstairs toilet, as well as one that travelled around the other rooms .
It meant that there was very little distance to travel too when she needed a wee.

Potty's in every room is defo the way to go i think!

Some bed mats under throws works well too - encourage play with toys/lego etc on a throw - put a mat underneath - protects the carpet/sofa/chair/ whatever.

We are in rented housing and have cream carpet everywhere except kitchen and bathroom.

I took the potty with me into every room and have a supply of old towels/ clothes to mop up excess fluid then scrub wee with a damp soapy cloth immediately.

I also used a pvc tablecloth mat thing for playing on in the living room but dd wasn't really having any of that and liked to roam free.
