Potties just aren't designed for boys are they?

The lip at the front is just not adequate to stop DS weeing over the top. I remind him to 'tuck it in' but there are still occasional accidents. It's not just me is it?

Nope. I had to buy ds a pretty enormous one from Boots when it became clear that dd's old one just wasn't adequate.

DS has always sat on his backwards, for some reason, so we don't have this problem. They are quite low at the front, so I can see why accidents can happen! You can probably buy special potties for boys, but I haven't seen them and they would most likely cost more anyway!

It's excellent practice though for all the wee you'll be cleaning up for ever more when they start using the toilet.

Short of a bottle or a hedge, nothing seems to be designed for boys and their wee.

The ikea ones are big enough.

Some people get one with a high back on it and turn it round.

..oh, and hate to break this to you, but I'm still having to remind DS to 'tuck it in' when he's sitting on the loo... he's almost 5.

The kid can wee out of the front of a potty, and she's a she. In fact she can sometimes wee straight out on a normal toilet, which is great when you're in the toilets in the park because there is no room to get out of the way. Not having the same set of bits I assumed this was something to do with 'technique' but my DP has no idea how she manages it either.

Goodness knows how boys get on with potties. I recall my mum employing those large containers you used to get supermarket own brand ice cream in.

Indith · 24/08/2012 17:17

Dd also wees straight over the loo seat. It takes practice and time for all of them.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 24/08/2012 17:33

:o not just me then... and not just boys... and not just potties Confused

I have tried getting him to sit backwards but he looks at me like I'm a complete idiot and turns himself around. I've started using disposable changing mats under the travel potty to protect my car seats!

not jsut you, you can get a potty with more of a lip for boys i think baby bjorn make one? i remember seeing it in a catalogue, but no you must teach them to tuck their willy down when on the potty or the loo!

and you have the joy of teaching him to aim properly yet! such fun!

I'm envisaging colour-changing targets and ping pong balls for that step! He has done a few standing up but only after watching DH first.
