Toilet seat vs potty

Was just wondering, has anyone gone for straight a toilet seat for toddler to sit on ther than a potty for 'potty training'?
My DD is 2.3 and am considering starting potty training soon but thought may use a toilet seat instead of a potty. Any advice/thoughts?

yes, we never had a potty - but my DCs were both about 3 years old when we got rid of nappies (trained in a day!)

We made the mistake with DS of only introducing a potty at first. He trained at 2.3, but was always big for his age. With most potties, he was just too big to get his 'bits' down. In the end we had to use a great big potty with a removable seat. This made going out a bit of a mammoth task as we had to take the potty with us.

It took us a good six months before he would use a toilet seat (we got a padded one with handles on the side).

With DD (2.5 and out of nappies for 3 weeks), we introduced the potty and seat together. She tends to use the potty at home as she can get to it easily when required (she is really short and wouldn't be able to get on the loo even with a step). She is happy to use the toilet seat when we are out and about.

With both, we introduced the concept of sitting on the potty/toilet from about 18 months as we were getting them ready for bath.

Definitely go with a toilet seat. Cleaning poos out of potties is not a great experience (I did it for 12 weeks with morning sickness - yuk).
