Anybody want to hold hands through the early days of potty training?

DD1 is 2y 3m. I've wondered for a month or so if she's ready to potty train. But yesterday she wanted her nappy off and wee'd on the potty. And today she's wee'd on the loo twice plus one near miss where she asked for the loo but I couldn't take her as I was breastfeeding baby.

I'm off out this afternoon for pants plus books about how great it is to wee and poo in potty/loo.

But I'm stupidly anxious about it all. I don't want to put my anxiety onto her. It's daft as my mantra is usually 'never mind, it will wash'. So I should just trust my usual instincts and grit my teeth for lots of washing.

Anybody else starting out and fancy holding hands?

We're about a month in and can honestly say additional washing is minimal. Three or four minor accidents but nothing for a couple of weeks now. Initially, and when possible, I had DS naked apart from his tshirt/top, and no shoes/slippers as they get soaked if any accidents. Good luck Smile

Thanks Mum2Fergus
I ended up letting her run around in a t shirt with a bare bum this afternoon.

We are doing well so far. Only one accident this afternoon and she wee'd in the carpet then ran and sat on her potty so I think she's getting the idea.

I've just bought two big boxes of nappies for her as I wasn't expecting to train her so soon. Luckily I have a baby so she can inherit them!

Sounds like you are both doing really well.

DD is 2.5 and has been out nappies now for 3 weeks. She has been using the potty regularly at nursery and home for about six weeks now, but I wanted to wait until the school holidays (I am a teacher) before ditching the nappies. We had one or two wee accidents a day for the first few days, but now we are down to about one a week - and that's not a full bladder's worth. She is out of nappies at night as well!

Miraculously, we have had no poo accidents at all. She shows plenty of 'warning signs' before pooing, so I put her on the potty and ask her to poo and she usually does!

TBH, I take no credit for how well she has done. DS (almost 6) was really difficult to persuade to use the loo when he needed a wee. He regularly had wee accidents until he was 4, and can still have them when he is distracted with something more interesting!

Hi.
I'm not convinced its going too well today. Probably 50/50 potty and carpet.
She's even twice squatted down right beside the potty and weed on the carpet.

I'm having second thoughts about it all. Maybe expecting too much of her. I think it's also because I'm not actually fussed if she stays in nappies for another few months.

I'm going to keep going for a few days and decide on Sunday whether to keep going with potty or go back to nappies. My thinking is if she's not really improved by then then it's probably too soon for her.

Things are rather complicated by the fact that she doesn't want to wear a nappy. But we'll see how we go.

A few days can make all the difference. Stick at it - it does get easier!
