How long can she hold out for??!!!

Just started potty training with dd 2.1 yesterday. She's fine with sitting on the potty and quite enjoys reading a book or something while she's there, but she doesn't actually DO anything in it! Yesterday we went out a couple of times so I put nappies on and during afternoon nap and bedtime, and she managed to just hold it all in at all other times throughout the day except for one small wee accident on the floor.

This morning she has had her nappy off since about 7.30 and hasn't done anything since, however she is obviously desperate for a wee but won't let it go. I'm worried this might cause some damage/infection?

She won't sit on big toilet. Have tried encouraging with choc buttons/stickers, and have tried blowing bubbles on potty to relax muscles down there. All to no avail?

Seriously how long can she hold out for and what can I do?

Any similar experiences or advice welcome!

What signs of readiness is she showing? 2.1 is on the early side to potty train.

Also wanted to add, ot's possible to be physically ready but not mentally. How motivated is she?

She's aware of when she's weeing or pooing and has been for some time, she'll also tell me.

She's doesn't like having a pooey nappy but there's no massive amount of motivation to be using a potty to be honest.

Perhaps it is too early. I'm due my 2nd mid september and was hoping to not have two in nappies, but I don't suppose it matters much. I do feel pressure as well from my dm who thinks she should have been pt long ago.

In my experience, 2.5-3.5 years old is average with some doing it at 2 or nearly 4.

Our mums did it earlier as they had to boil/wash terry nappies which is a pain in the arse and time consuming- not because they were supermum with super children.

I think the obvious thing as well is that terry nappies feel very wet so the child gets tired of them more quickly than today's disposables where it feels dry for some time.

In the end I just put a nappy on her because I hated seeing her uncomfortable, it had been 3.5 hours with nothing!

Think I will wait until she's a bit older.

Thanks for replying.

My DD is similar. Shes 2.3

She will happily sit on the potty, knows when she needs to go but refuses to actually wee/poo on the potty or in the loo.
She can hold it for hours! She waits till her afternoon nap or bed when her nappy goes on and then floods it!

It tried all sorts of rewards/ bribery but nothing is working! :(
