DS (exactly 3) has been training for about 8 weeks. After a few days he got the idea of weeing in the potty or on the toilet and is now really good at getting on and off a big toilet with a step (doesn't like the special seats) and can hold himself on. He likes his pants and gets a reward when he gets it right BUT at 8 weeks on I don't feel we are progressing at all. He's just done two huge wees on the carpet and has only once managed to tell us in the car and hold off long enough to pull over and get on a potty. We were so pleased with him, but 30 mins later he had an accident. Poos are still in pants, only 3 times in the toilet and that was by accident when he'd gone for a wee. Really don't want to give up but will feel pressured to do so in a month when he goes back to CM and pre-school who were not keen and had him in pull-ups before the summer break. Any thoughts?

Have you considered a reward chart for being dry and clean. When we do this it does make a big difference.

You have the day divided into time periods appropriate to your DS then if he is dry and clean at the end of that time period he gets a sticker and then if he has X number of stickers at the end of the day he gets a bigger treat.

I have to say though that both DS1 and DS2 were a nightmare at toilet training and not brilliant now (and talking to friends this is not uncommon) We just bought a vax type carpet cleaner with our tesco vouchers at Christmas and have lots of spare clothes!!! He will get it in the end and the less stressed you feel about it the better.

thanks. we did do a chart ages ago but I think it was too early and now he's bored with it but I like the idea of dividing the day up into sections. We just had the carpets vaxed and yes, he has far more shorts than he had last summer! It just feels a bit interminable

It certainly does. My boys are 6 4 and 2 and I feel like I have been toilet training for the last 4 years and have another 4 to go! Fingers crossed DS3 is a bit easier!
