Teeny Pants for a Teeny Toddler?

OK - so I am about to bite the bullet with DS who is almost 2.5 - but I cant get pants small enough for him..... He is on the 0.4th centile, weighs 21lbs and has a teeny 35cm waist (definitely does not take after his mother!). He wears 6-9m or 9-12m trousers and usually needs a belt/braces - which is not going to work with pants Grin.

Tried all the usual places but they all seem to start at 12-18 months, which are ginormous on DS! Think I am probably going to have to buy some 12-18month ones and try and alter them somehow - but just wondered if anyone had any bright ideas of where I could buy smaller ones?

I Did think about dolls knickers but they are little too pink and frilly for my linking....

The smallest knickers I found were 12-18 months from m&s. On the plus side dd us still weari g them and she's nearly six.

Most places start at 2-3. Dolls ones are not good enough quality (been there!). There is a fancy pants French (or similar) company whose tiniest pants are very tiny. It might be called Marquis.

The only alternative is to cut the sides off every pair and sew them up again, which I do with swimmers.

Thanks so much SavoyCabbage. I will have a google - and maybe try some M&S ones - I am pretty good at shrinking stuff in the machine, but will probably end up having to alter some.

I know what you mean about clothes lasting for years though - the 12-18 month shorts I bought for DS last summer might just be fitting by next year!!

my DD went into pants at 2yr 4m weighing less than 10kg and in 12-18 or 18-24 month bottoms in clothes. we found sainsbury's Tu knickers were fine then and now she's reached the dizzying weight of 11kg and 3yrs old they still fit well (where next 2-3 are still massive)

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 14/07/2012 12:27

Thanks sleepless -

DS is very small around the waist so 12-18m generally swamps him but will take a tape measure and have a look next time I am in sainsbury's.

Boots used to have 1-1.5

TheChangerOfTheName · 14/07/2012 12:40

Might be worth looking for some of those girls knickers that arr worn iver nappies under dresses. sometimes sold in plain white and may be a good temporary measure.

Usually start very small. Trying to remember wherr ive seen them, maybe h&m or la redoute. Ill have a look and link when I find.

I've found M&S trunks in 1 1/2 to 2 fit my very scrawny boy, again he's 0.4th centile and still wearing some 9-12 month shorts (button waists not yet on loosest setting). Because the trunks are a bit higher up they seem to fit a bit better, in fact he's nearly growing out of that size now at very nearly 3!

BobbiFleckman · 14/07/2012 16:04

Disney Store pants cost silly ££ but are very pretty and come up small. Not sure what size they start at but they are little

Wrigglebum · 14/07/2012 16:07

And remember it's worth a try with them because he'll always grow into them (I think my boy will be wearing age 2-3 when he starts school).

2Old2BeABluePeterPresenter · 18/07/2012 15:31

Just adding Boots and Sainsburys come up very small :)

brettgirl2 · 18/07/2012 20:26

Pants just seem to fit. My dd (3) still has 12-18 month shorts that fit but I bought her some 3-4 pants the other day that were fine. I reckon the 12-18 will be fine.

KateShmate · 18/07/2012 20:44

We recently had the same problem when potty training 2 of our 3YO triplets - they aren't particularly teeny tiny, but small, and even 2-3 would be a bit too big.
We got some Vertbaudet ones.
If anyone is potty training a 3month old, they cater for those needs too! Grin

KateShmate · 18/07/2012 20:45

Oops x-post!

BillyBollyBandy · 18/07/2012 20:48

Primark pants are very cheap so good for potty training, and I found them small on dd1.

ceeveebee · 18/07/2012 20:54

Yes kate I did wonder why they make pants this small? Maybe in France they potty train early??

DairyNips · 18/07/2012 20:57

We found Primark ones fit ok (both my boys on 0.4th)

KateShmate · 18/07/2012 21:05

ceevee - ahh those pants only go down to 6m, but the boys 'boxer shorts' go down to 3m!
I strangely remember reading something on the internet about mums who potty train tiny babies! I think there was an image of a mum dangling her baby (not MJ style!) over her front porch waiting for the baby to wee!

kellestar · 22/08/2012 07:38

Such a relief reading this thread! Wink was worried I'd be modifying pants for DD who is 8kg and still in 6-9 month clothes, also 0.4th centile.

Was advised to try small tots bots training pants as they should fit.

I shall check out VB and sainsbo's

ilovemyoboe · 23/08/2012 15:33

If you can't get anything that fits, and to save on sewing ...
If you had some 12-18m pants could you open up the waistband bit where the elastic is, then pull the elastic a bit tighter, and fix with a really small safety pin? (You can get very small ones) If you open the waistband on the outside of the pants then the safety pin would be well away from DS's skin. Would look a bit like the adjustable waist trousers you can get, except with a safety pin instead of buttons, and on the outside not inside. If you do it on both sides it won't be too bunched up, and you could adjust the safety pin(s) as he grows until they're not needed.

ilovemyoboe · 23/08/2012 15:34

Or you could experiment with shrinking them in a tumble dryer!

TheLaineyWayIsEssex · 23/08/2012 15:38

Slightly OT but before I gave birth my friend bought me some cute clothes from Oh Baby London - one of which was a pair of mustard coloured pants - 0-3 months. I think I put them on once over his nappy for a picture. Hmm
