Gentle potty training for 22mo with a nearly newborn in tow?

Did post this on another thread but no further responses so hoping for any words of wisdom.

I'm 38 weeks pg and nearly 22 mo dd did her first pee in the potty last weekend. She was really happy with her achievement and I don't want to discourage her but how/should/could it be done with a newborn too?

She knows when she is about to do a poo, and no longer wants me to hold her hand or be near her when she does so. Today she was pulling at her nappy so I asked if she needed the potty? She said yes 'poo' so trooped upstairs nappy and clothes off, sat on potty and did a pee then gleefully cheered. Lots of cheering, whooping and stickers.

I'm thinking keep in nappies and offer potty in morning, pre and post nap and pre bed, and anytime she's pulling at her nappy? I have a potty upstairs and downstairs so can get to either pretty quick. Although that would probably be impossible once ds arrives and i'm stuck bf!

Is this the right way to go? Currently not physically capable of boot camp potty training and with imminent arrival of ds don't want to start something and not be able to continue.

Any thoughts?

How about pull-ups that she can pull down herself? If you just put her in a pull-up with no trousers/tights over the top at home, and always have a potty nearby, then she should be able to manage herself even if you are feeding.

i definitley wouldnt start potty training with newborn on way.
how about buying some pullups, tell her they are like pants and she can pull them down and use potty if she wants, if she wets them they go in the bin. then maybe hr before bed with no nappy and potty nearby till she gets much more confident/reliable.

How would it work when out and about? At two toddler groups earlier this week she pulled at nappy but I had no way of helping her

Was really hoping i could have tackled this in a few months, but c'est la vie!

Are there no toilets at the toddler groups?

I would leave it up to her if she wants to use the potty and your able to then let her, but I wouldn't go full on potty training incase she regresses once your baby here.

my dd1 started to use potty for wees and poos from 18 months but not reliably, so i put her in pull ups and if she asked for potty i took her to the toilet and if not she wet her pullups. she got gradually more reliable till i potty trained her in a week at 21 months. pullups were like an interim stage. Toilets at toddler groups yes, but i am currently physically unable to do all the bending, squatting required to assist, put new nappy on etc.

where- that's what I'm worried about, I can't do full on potty training at the moment, but neither do I want to discourage her

Like the idea of the pull ups, will investigate.

Thanks everyone
