Hi, hope someone can help. My DS, 3.3, has been potty trained for about 5 months now. He did really well, and was dry within a few days. Due to logistics of only having an upstairs loo, a 1 year old DD, and probably laziness on my part, we have stuck to him using the potty downstairs rather than getting him to use the upstairs loo, although he is happy to use the toilet when out shopping and at pre-school.

About a month ago, I bit the bullet and started getting him to use the toilet. All went really well and we were even at the stage where I could just let him go by himself. Really thought we'd cracked it. But over the last two weeks, he's been having wet pants. Not very wet, almost like he's started to go and then stopped, but wet enough to change pants and sometimes his trousers. It's like he's not getting there in time but not a full accident.

To begin with it was the odd time, but it's getting more frequent now and yesterday we had 4-5 pairs of wet pants by mid-morning. He doesn't seem at all bothered or worried by it, and I have kept calm (on the outside!) about it. DH did start off by gently telling him off but I explained that this might have the wrong effect and he is trying to keep calm about it too.

We have tried sticker charts, and they work for a couple of trips and then he forgets again. Our washing seems to have more clothes in now than the week we started potty training.

I am thinking of going back to using the potty and almost starting again. This morning he has had two pairs of wet pants and three sucessful goes on the potty. He is fine with poos, and will do those on the potty or toilet quite happily. Strangely, he is also fine when we're out, it just seems to be when we're at home.

He does drink a fair amount of water, not an excessive amount I think, but about 5-6 large toddler cups a day. Any ideas or tips?

I think it sounds as though he is too busy/engrossed in his activities at home to go to the loo in time, also there may be a bit of laziness because the loo is upstairs and a bit of a trek! TBH, as DS has no fear of using toilets generally, I would have a potty available downstairs for him to use, especially if he then stays completely dry as a result. I think he will grow out of it eventually. Emptying a a potty now and then is much less work than doing so much washing and mopping/cleaning floors and upholstery.

Do any of you ladies have any experience of laculose and senna for children?

My little boy (2.10yrs) has always suffered from constipation and was on Infant Movicol until recently. He has been potty trained for wees and dry all night since January, however we were having huge issues with poos.

He was just pooing himself and didn't even have any warning signs. Talked to GP who said it was the Movicol which wasn't giving him the sensation of a full bowel.

Anyway, he has been on Lactulose for around 2 months now and both Lactulose and Senna for 1 month as alternatives to the Movicol.

Guess what - he is still not saying he needs a poo! We can 'catch' him most of the time, as I can tell by his body language/face when he needs to go. It's worse when he's with the childminder who resorts to cutting his pants off him after an accident.

He still doesn't go every day even with the medication and can go around 3 days.

I don't know what to do. Is it a case of constipation or control with my little fella?

I'd be grateful to hear from any of you. I know there's loads of threads on poos, but not so much on constipation.

Just likeb the rest of you, we have tried loads of approaches - stickers, treats, singing and dancing like lunatics - you name it we've tried it! Haven't read Mr Poo though - where do you buy it from?

Good luck to the rest of you with toilet training!
Thanks

Thanks girly yes, I think it's probably being to engrossed in his trains! He is doing much better now we've gone back to using the potty primarily, was dry until about 6pm yesterday. Had a couple of wet pants today but still better.
