Poo - too scared to go?

Potty trained DD within a few days

All ok with wees , but bit trickier with poo but she was doing them on the potty

For the last 2 weeks she has really struggled - I called the GP who recommended lactulose and that certainly cleared her out

Now she has not pooed for days

Last night she was clutching her bum, and obviously uncomfortable

I don't want ro keep giving lactulose

We are encouraging her to drink lots but she is very picky and won't eat lots of fruit although she will eat veg

Tried to call GP again but can't get through

When should I worry

Any advice, hints or tips much appreciated

don't have any answers, sorry. But DS1 is completely potty trained. Has been for nearly a year.
Except that he won't poo in a potty or a toilet.
He knows when he's going to poo, so he asks for a nappy. I put one on him, he poos, I take off the nappy and he goes back to pants again.

I know some people might not agree with this approach, but I had terrible problems with constipation for years, mostly I think due to witholding.
For me, it's better that DS goes every day and learns later to do it in the toilet. I have tried refusing the nappy a few times, and he just doesn't poo. For days. For me, there's not point in this. He needs to poo!!

I'm assuming (and have been assured by various people that know about these things) that he'll eventually make the decision himself to go on the toilet instead.

I'm sorry that doesn't really help. But I've heard it's fairly common. I expect someone will come along who's got some suggestions at one point...

Thanks - have offered her a nappy but that's not helping

Totally agree that poo in a nappy is better at this stage!

She won't even sit on the potty for long enough to relax now

Vicious circle really

Oh :(
....and I guess you've probably tried sitting down with her and reading to her while she just sits there? Don't mention why she's there. Just suggest she has a story on the potty when it's obvious she needs to go?....

I am someone that still almost has to 'forget' where I am sometimes. I always take a book to the loo! Wink

Ha!

Have tried that but she's reluctant to sit

I used to blow bubbles when I trained my son to help him relax but she won't sit for long enough
