needing to poo an hour after bedtime - often!

DS is 2.10 and we are in the midst of training. It's going ok - he can stay dry in the day as long as I keep asking to sit on the toilet. However, after bedtime, he often asks to go to the toilet (never asks during the day). We always take him (he can't manage alone yet). I don't think it's a tactic to postpone bedtime, because he always does go. If it's a wee, it's usually a big wee, but it is often a poo. It has surprised me because he never before has done poos in the night. Hmm Anyone else had this? He's not holding it in for after bedtime, cuz he does poos in the toilet during the day too. The problem is that he doesn't ask to go until probably about an hour or more after he's been put to bed. He's been lying awake all this time (have had trouble since the clocks changed). After this, he will usually go right to sleep with no problems. There is then a significant knock on effect, as he always wakes up on time in the morning, so is so tired. He still naps in the day, but this is not enough rest. Yesterday he fell asleep over lunch at 11:45 am! We do already take him to the toilet as part of the bedtime routine. Not sure if there is any solution - don't think he'll be ready to wipe his bottom for a while, so helping him learn to go on his own won't solve anything.

Advice welcome please!

I think that sometimes training can alter their normal poo routine, and also the clocks going forward hasn't helped him. I agree that it doesn't sound like attention seeking because he always does something when you take him to the loo. He may be having a growth spurt which can make them more tired and prone to nod off when they wouldn't normally, and his appetite may have increased resulting in doing more poos.

I agree that he is too young to manage bottom wiping etc on his own, and the fact that he tells you rather than just doing it in a night nappy is really good. I suggest making sure he gets a good nap during the day, and making bedtime a bit later so that he isn't lying there awake for so long before he needs the toilet. I think in a couple of weeks his routine will change again when he's past the growth spurt.

Thanks for responding, girly. I hope it is just a short lived stage!
