Hi can anyone recommend a fold up portable potty? Will not be be starting until the summer but thinking about getting one. With ds now 8yrs I remember taking his potty in a carrier bag on the pushchair, but these sound much better.
Thanks x

I had one of the original potettes, and it was very useful to take out with us. The new improved model is the potette plus, which is larger and more sturdy, and converts by rotating the legs outwards into a childs seat for a toilet, when they get to that stage. I can see that being useful for DC who don't like unfamiliar loos, because the potette will be familiar and so encourage them. If there is no loo available or they're all engaged you can put it back in potty mode with the bag in place.

Potettes are brilliant to have on the beach, and on holiday in general. They can also be used as a sick bowl in the car with the disposable bags! I remember taking DS to the DR by car and he said he felt queasy, so although it wasn't needed I was glad to have it with us in the surgery in case the loo was engaged.

The potette plus liners are quite expensive, so improvise with pedal bin liners or non-holey carriers and use something like kitchen roll folded into a pad or cheap sanitary pads to absorb the wee. I wouldn't change the bag after every wee personally, just add more absorbent material; especially if your DC goes little and often. It can also be useful in the early days of training to have the potette set up with the bag in place and the legs unfolded so that you can just get the DC on it quickly. Plus you can put more than one liner on at a time, taking off the soiled one and it's ready for next time.

I second the potette plus, we use the basic sainsburys bin liners, in fact ds often sits on it at home as a toilet seat too.
