Help

DS has been potty training for a few weeks. Was very reluctant at first (lots of meltdowns if had to go out without nappy) and reluctant to use potty.

After a few days we cracked it and he is now weeing and pooing on toilet happily at home.

But he won't go at all at the childminders or nursery. Confused

He goes to nursery every morning and so he just holds on. Doesn't wet himself but doesn't use toilet either.

When I pick him up he goes as soon as he gets through the door. However, when the childminder picks him up he holds on even longer, obviously uncomfortable and childminder has said he has been holding back tears on occasion. He then gets so desperate that he just wets himself - usually in the garden.

CM has tried everything. Sitting him on potty, stickers, the lot.

I've tried to talk to him about it and he just says that he doesn't like her toilet.

Help!

Would he use a potette plus? A travel potty which can also be put on a toilet? I was just thinking that maybe he could get used to it at home and then take it with him when he goes out to childminder/ day trips etc. It is a common problem, but it is worth trying to crack as it does limit day trips, and when he goes to school (some children still have the problem when they go to school). The potette can also be used with a bag as a travel potty at the beach/park etc.

It's worth a thought. I'm going to try taking his potty from home (which he doesn't use now) to the CM to see if that works.

Had no idea it was so common. DS1 was much more of a 'need to go right now' kind of toddler Grin

Still no progress. Happy to go anywhere with me over the last few days.

Used toilets at cinema, garden centre, soft play, supermarket, even the manly ones at the petrol station.

It's just the childminder! Sad

Does the CM's toilet have a particularly violet/loud flush, or is there no privacy from the other DC's there, or even is it left used and unflushed by them? Some DC's can be put off by these things. The lack of privacy at nursery too.

Would he be happy to do a wee in the garden at the childminders if he doesn't like toilet?

We worked out it's actually me, not the toilet.

When he is with me, he'll go anywhere. Supermarket, cinema, garden centre.

It's when I'm not there he holds on. I collected him from CM on fri and he had done one poo and wee in trousers, and refused the loo even though he was desperate.

Within minutes of me being there he told me he needed a wee and took himself off to the potty.

CM was gobsmacked.
