Is this a good idea to encourage pooing on the toilet?

I posted a while ago - DD is now 3 and we started potty training about 6 months ago. She was dry instantly and we've had very few accidents. Poohs have been a tricker situation, she did well for a couple of weeks, but then got constipation and did a very painful pooh on the potty. Since then she has been scared of going on the toilet or potty, and insists on putting a pull up on. I decided to try and not make a big deal of it and to let her do this, thinking she would eventually get over the fear, but it's not really happened.

I try gently encouraging, offering chocolate buttons as a reward, telling her big girls go on the toilet etc.

I was thinking that perhaps something more encouraging is needed. I am thinking of wrapping up a number of small presents (Peppa pig figures, hair clips etc) showing her the box of them, and then saying she can choose one present each time she poohs on the toilet. Perhaps with a larger one that is the last to open.

Any thoughts on whether this is a good idea and likely to help conquer her fear, or is it likely to lead to upset without helping her? I don't want to taunt her with the presents if it's really not the right way to go about it!

Bribery is the way to go. I like your incentive scheme. I read that parents underestimate the power of these rewards when potty training. I hope it works!

Thanks - I've read some conflicting advise on this, but we might as well give it a go, I'll be so pleased if it works!

I've been pondering this too, was thinking of heading to poundland to buy a box of bribes, how many were you planning to do before giving the big present?

Hmm not sure Belina, I was thinking maybe 10? I want it to be enough so that the habit of going to the toilet is firmly engrained, I don't want her reverting once she has all the goodies!

Just an update to say it didn't work. She really wanted the presents whilst not needing to go, but as soon as she needed a poo just not interested, only wanted the nappy. Still no poos on the toilet at all :(

I'm going to leave it another six months and see if she naturally loses her fear of the toilet. As long as she is trained by school I guess it's OK?
