Hi, we started potty training this morning. We have already used about 10 pairs of pants; DS wees in his pants, by the time we have cleared that up and put a new pair on he has done another wee. Not sure if he just has a small bladder/poor control and is not ready. He is almost 3 though and I feel a bit rubbish giving up after 2 hours! Anyone had the same problem?

I had a similar problem, in that ds was peeing every 5 mins (in the potty though). I put it down to the chocolate buttons I was using at bribes. More wees in potty = more buttons = lots of teeny tiny wees = even more buttons!

Have you tried sitting him on the potty with a book? :)

We've given up. We can't find a potty that he can sit comfortably on so it's a non starter. Tried holding him on the loo but he's not comfortable. He seems to have no idea he is weeing. Back in pull ups for us, how depressing.

Can u get him to choose a special toilet seat? It may be enough to make him want to use it.

I'm not sure if he will fit on a training seat. I am googling commodes and camping toilets. This is a definate gap in the market.

We found quite a big one in our local co-op pharmacy - called comfy grips, or similar - we bought it a while ago when we saw it, thinking it looked bigger than others we'd seen. DS is generally slower to take to things so we left it out in the bathroom and he used it a couple of times as a seat (ie with all his clothes on while waiting for bath) and is now happy to sit on it (although we still haven't caught anything in it - seems he only wees 3 times a day!). I'm now trying the same slow approach with the toilet seat.

You're expecting far too much for day 1. Imagine if you had been peeing in your nappy your whole life - you probably never really even realised you were doing it. The first lesson of toilet training has to be the mere realisation that you're peeing & pooing. Then it's holding it in. Give it time.

You do need the right equipment, but you also need to persevere once you have it all to hand.

We have one with steps and handles and its massive. My five yr old who has toilet issues fits on it fine and feels much safer with it on.

hello, well, a better day today when we located a bigger potty seat in tesco;still needto be very careful with willy location and if he puts on a kg he'll be too heavy for it, but at least it is comfy and he has done 2 wees on it, hurray!

Yay for DS!

Fisher Price do a frog shaped potty. It's great for 3 year olds (or around that age) as its high enough that they don't sit with there knees around their ears Wink and it doesn't have any gadgets on it to distract it from being a potty.
I highly recommend it... I nearly went bald through potty training but got there in the end Grin
I got nursery to start it (3 days a week) and I carried on at home. They took him to loo every 10-15 mins on day one, every 15- 20 mins on day 2 etc etc.

He had a lot of accidents but remained in pants, never in pull ups. After 2 weeks he was fine (occasional accident).

You need plenty of patience and make sure you don't return to nappies / pull ups once you have got through the first day.

Took 2 months to crack (pardon the pun) number 2s but we are completely clean & dry in the day now.

Good luck Grin

I remember day 1 of DS1 potty training. It was every 10 mins. I thought I would never leave the house again. They adapt, you adapt. You do leave the house again.
